Your router may have been locked out by the modem which would even lock out a DHCP request. Set your MAC of your NIC in your router's MAC address clone and then go to the status page and renew. You should then be able to connect.....

I cannot remember the exact model number of it but it is a Gigabit NIC made by Intel using the i960 CPU on it. And guess what, it can go down to 100Mbps and 10Mbps for backwords compatibilty. Now that would be the NIC to run a server on..but it runs for $100+ (Intel's MSRP is $215)

You cna put it what ever direction suits you best, however make sure you do not block the air vents on it or it may overheat and become a fire hazard. If it is a WAP then you may want to try various orientations that will suit you best for signal strength.

Yes radioshack sells two way AMPs that will work with cable modems but if the signal is boosted to much your modem could jam the node up and your cable company will cut you off promptly. Yep I got it right when it went up. If oyu guys need to use static routing then first put 1.38j in (it works but it is japenese), put in the routes, then upgrade to 1.38.6. All the routes saved by 1.38j will be kept through the upgrade to 1.38.6

If he is one way it is because his cable co's system is NOT set up for two way. If his system was two way his cable company would not have him dial in. If you think about it the cable comapny has to pay that telco for all those lines for the upstream and running two way would be cheaper.

Unfortunately you are capped at 512kbps down as NTLWORLD in the UK caps at that speed. My upload surpasses it anyday even on a bad day. Unfortunately Halflifer has me beet right now :(

check your router and make sure port 113 is being forwarded to your computer running mIRC. I myself hate having to leave Identd open on IRC but in order to get on the server it has to be enabled... I just kill it once I am connected.
