Rogers or Shaw?

Post by ExtraCrispy »

Hello, this is my first post here, I believe a little introduction is needed. My name is ______, I am currently using a 56k Dial Up(AIC), and AM getting Rogers next month. I am going to move to Vancouver, Canada, and after a little bit of browsing around the message board, I am a little bit concerned about the service that I will be getting. There is no way to cancel the service, since I am sharing the cost with my roommate, unless I can come up with enough facts that Shaw is problably better than Rogers. So can anyone who lives in the lower mainland give me a little bit of preview about Rogers and Shaw? Like how fast downstream/upstream?

woah... me have not used vBulletin yet.. oh well nice and slick

on to Shaw

in the BC area Vancouver might be getting good service but from what I heard from some people in BC Shaw is being the ****s. But besides their new markets in BC they kill Rogers left, right and centre.

The only problem is if you were on a DOCSIS system then you might not like the terayon modems Shaw uses. I hear lots of complaints on these.... time for them to upgrade in my opinion to something better like a DOCSIS system.

On a side note:
..LOL.. I see vB blocks the bad grammer :D ....!!! good job!

Immortal- Thanks for your input, the problem is that I can't change to Shaw since my roommate is a loyal fan of Rogers, and wouldn't change unless some devestating facts about Shaw.

donald_K- I think the new lines has really improved Shaw's quality, and I don't know if Rogers can live up to that :(

DSL Reports shows 2842 down and 485 Up or 56 tiems faster than a 56K modem at 2:45 AM. I was with Rogers but it is now called Shaw in Vancouver.

That's just the thing. I know that Shaw brought Rogers cable, but I am not sure if the users are getting the same kind of service.

Rogers really sucks

Some time ago in The Toronto Ontario area shaw ran the show and the speeds where uncapped and I was regularly getting over 500KB downstream. Then Rogers and Shaw swapped area's and the service is pathetic. They capped it at 2.5mbit and its down alot. Hell iam writing this from work because rogers has been down for over 24hours. Along with his iam getting 10-15 percent packet loss all the time. They say they cant see it on their end.

If you want a good laugh just talk to Rogers technical "consultants" , I have talked to atleast 2 of them so far that do not know the commands to ping my router or my pc. Incredible.

So to sum it up, go with SHAW all the way. They have a real network and infrastructure. ROGERS is a half assed company run by Retards.

richardc- Thanks for your suggestion!

snookey- I believe that Rogers and Shaw are running by the same company here in Vancouver. I still don't know whether or not I would get the same amount of speed whether or not I use Rogers or Shaw.

Extra Crispy - just gave Shaw a call - all of Vancouver should be Shaw i.e. all former Vancouver Rogers customers are now Shaw.
Hope this is what you are looking for.

I use Rogers in N. Vancouver rite now and the speeds aren't too bad. I've use Rogers for almost 3 years now and the speeds are ok. They're probably not as great as other places but I guess I can't complain. I thought that Rogers and Shaw are the same now... oh well. I have a friend who lives rite in Vancouver and he thought the speeds were great but now, he's sorta complainin about the speeds.

Hope this helped. :D
