you need to call the company, and tell them your internet is slow, and then tell them to reprovision your modem so everything will be back to normal

call your company and tell them to "re-provision" your modem. this will just reset your modem and may help you out.

I called my cable companys tech support line and the guy there said Hes been doing tech support for 20yrs and never heard of a cable modem going bad? Is he serious?:

it sounds like maybe the main power lead to your modem is faulty, damaged, etc.

its most liikely that either your node is totally crowded with torrenting fools, or some corporation or school etc. is running online updates or maintenance on multiple workstations hogging bandwidth.

alas, if running optimizer programs does not help, calling your cable company, and demanding that they reprovision and recycle your modem is your best bet.

this resets your modem, and will usually fix crap problems that just "seem" to happen for no reason with cable companies. Then, after recycling ...
