Charter cable progressively getting worse

Post by Shagster »

I have charter cable internet. 3down 256up. When I first got it, it was pretty good. That was about 2 weeks ago. Now every other game of BF2 jams (sometimes completely loses connection). The cable goes completely out for a few minutes at random too.

The bottom line is it's progressively getting worse. Is it just crappy cable or could it be a problem? I have all the tweaks install, optimizer, read and acted on all the tips. I can't think of anything other than it being caused by the cable modem I got or something else in their control?

Charter Cable and Problems for the past couple weeks

I've have been having connectivity issues also and it's at the point now where I call the support line on a daily basis to listen for the report of troubles and my area is on the list on a daily basis along with numerous others.

Anyone know what is going on with Charter that they are having so many issues in the Georgia area???

I am having the exact same problems in Wisconsin... in fact, I've been looking around the site, and it seems everyone that has charter is having these problems.

Charter Internet Problems

Post by stahl0325 »

Here in Illinois, we are sometimes down or should I say connected only a few hours a day. Today is a rather unusual day. We have had connection most of the day. We bought a new Lynx router we exchanged modems. This has been this way for the past few months. Talk about aggrevation. We reboot the computer, we reboot the modem, we reboot the router, and nothing works. I have spoken to many people using charter in this area and they have the same problems. Wish they would fix the problems.

your going to have to remember that charter is a huge (usually) company in most cities, sporting thousands and thousands of users simultaneously. usually this would not be any knid of problem for most RESPONSIBLE corporations.

more and more im hearing about problems from charter, and it just seems that they are a crappy, money-hungry outsourced terd of an isp.

I have the same setup you have, and would recommend this: sometimes if your connection goes out it's most likely, based on my experiences;

a). they are performing some crack-pot maintenance, splitting nodes and yadda yadda, which stifles the congestion and problems, but doesnt really fix anything, OR

b). They are flat out cheating you somehow, like with me they do something where your speed is fine for a few hours, then it goes in the shitter, and WILL NOT under any circumstances get any better UNLESS YOU CALL and talk to Habeeb Harmash Haboobie, and explain your problem and demand that they quit reading lines from a computer screen, and just re-provision your modem.

I am a huge gamer on Xbox Live, and I Demand, Insist, and Command that my internet connection be top notch, to destroy any and all chances of the dreaded "Lag".

sometimes my internet will be smoking at around 2.7 Mega BITS/sec, which I can totally except. (2.7/3 is not a bad deal)

but other times, my connection will be in red bar, and everyone will be appearing and disappearing, and flying here and there, and it's ridiculous.

I called Crack-pot charter today, and told Habeeb that my connection was slow. I (before calling) logged into my modem (Via: 192.168.100.1) and checked my DB levels, to find that they were ridiculously low.

now absolutely PISSED because i hadnt thought of checking before hand in the 4 months i've had my service, I can now conclude that Mr. Smarty who installed charter, didn't do something quite right, because my DB levels were nearly outside the "acceptible" low range.

when I called, Mr. Habeeb told me that they were in the acceptible range, then informed me that they were (low and behold) PERFORMING MAINTENACE.

absolutely stunned and aghast, I demanded to be re-provisioned, even though he said he was recieving a good connection from my modem. Then, i demanded he re-cycle my modem. for good measure.

I promptly hung up, and was not very shocked to see my connection was back in green bar, and internet speed tests were showing me around 2.8 MegaBits/sec.

So all in all, charter is money-hungry and corrupt, forcing more and more users to share an increasingly shrinking bandwidth size, instead of doing everyone a favor and either bringing in their own version of fiber optics, or at least lowering the price, sees how their screwing everyone over, and making things difficult by only STIFLING and TEMPORARILY controling congestion by somehow manually lowering our speeds.

(I.E) nearly every charter forum has something about 10 mb/s users, upon noticing slow connections, log into their modems, and see that their Maximum downstream and upstream rates are "5" something. :irate:

do us all a favor charter, and STOP MAKING EXCUSES, BEING IRRESPONSIBLE, AND MAKING LIFE DIFFICULT FOR YOU HIGH-PAYING CUSTOMERS. :irate: :irate: :irate:  :irate:

I have had no problems with Charter for 6 months. This last month has been hell. Its unreliable and at peak times. Forget it. Deathly slow. I might as well be on 56k. Tonight I couldnt get online at about 8:30pm. Called up tech support and was told they are adding another node or something to improve the overall network speeds and reliability. Its now midnite and back up. I can safely say I have never seen speeds like this before from them. It is lighting fast and how it should be. Im not sure if it will stay like this because other parts of Oregon are out from having this upgrade being done. The true test will have to be tommarow at peak time. Obviously the network has been oversold. This is there last chance for me. I will be going with Qwest dsl if Charter doesnt work out. Another thing that bothered me was this error within IE7 when I couldnt connect.

I was going to start troubleshooting and decided to call Charter first to see if it was down. And sure enough. Charter didnt let me down and told me they were doing that maint. I talked about up there.

I have northland cable where I live now and they are much worse. I have their number on speed dial.

I haven't had much luck with broadband ISP's. The only one I have had 0 problems with is Cox Cable in Virginia Beach.

Well woke up this morning and excited to try out a tracert to see if the problem was indeed actually fixed. And well brace yourself...... *GASP* it has indeed been fixed! The true test is at peak time tonight. Here is my tracert from the other day. Both of these are taken off of peak times during the day. From 4pm-11pm is where things get rough. Hopefully not anymore though.
