So what do you think my problem is?

I've been tinkering around with someone's computer. It's a 750mhz Duron with windows 98. Really cheap and old everything else.

Anyway, here's what's going on.

Within 5 minutes of boot (can always get to windows) the computer always does one of the following:
1)locks up
2)auto shutsdown
3)bsods ...

154F is 67C. Now you're at 55C. Sounds about right with the fans you're running. A 21 decibal rated fan isn't putting out that many CFMs. I'm right around 57C with an identical setup (4 case fans and a whisper quiet fan on the heatsink) at stock voltage (my board undervolts about .035 too). Any ...

Try raising the cpu voltage an increment or 2? Perhaps your board undervolts enough for it to not even be stable at stock speeds.

I had that problem. The culprit was my northbridge fan. It would rev for about a minute after a cold boot then settle back down to its normal operating sound. You might check under the power management section in the bios and see if there's a power on function setting. Make sure that's set to button only if Gigabyte boards have such an option.

9800NP is just a hair more than a 9500P, if you're looking to spend around ~200 for a card might look at spending 20-30 more and get a 9800np. It's worth it. Most 9800NPs can be flashed to a 9800P no problem too.

SATA vs IDE? benefits of SATA useless?

SATA can transmit 150mb/sec and IDE 66mb or so, isnt the peak hard drive performance like 43 mbs in everyday computing? Only benefit i can see from SATA over IDE is a slightly more convenient cable with a cost. Am I missing something here?

Anyone have any ideas about any delay settings?

There are some timer settings in my bios; i have yet to change them off the 'default' setting because most i've never even heard of.

I dont think my problem is defective hardware or improper installation. Once the cpu boots, it works perfect.
