The default is 20 when QoS is actually being used. If XP is not using QoS (and everything has to support it, the server at the distant end and every router in between) QoS uses 0 percent.

In other words, none of the QoS tweaks out there actually work.

You have it. Just get a wireless access point and plug it into the port previously occupied by the laptop. You won't have to make any other changes to your setup other than to configure the laptop. (You will have to get the wireless adapter.)

I use a NetGear PS101. I use the Adminstrator console on one computer to set up a permanent IP address (this is stored on the NetGear). All other computers on the network print to the IP address. Works great.

Actually, it doesn't. The download speed is based on the amount downloaded vs. the time it took to download it. The bigger the download, the longer the download, the more accurate the download speed displayed really is.

That's called Domain Administration. I'm not trying to be sarcastic. It is just incredibly too easy to get around security set up on a local machine. Microsoft (actually Novell) realized it; that's why domains were created.

When this happened at our site, it turned out that the problem was timing. With satellite users, there was a smally timeout between the time we sent a request and the time they received it. Our server kept timing out.

Our solution was to increase the timeout on our server.

Actually, qball, that is exactly the problem. The XP Zero Wireless configuration cannot connect to a wireless router that doesn't beacon. I ended up solving the problem by disabling the XP configurator, and using the D-Link one.
