My Network Places Just Will Not Update

Post by billybigfoot »

I have 2 wired PC's and a wireless Laptop, all can access the internet and once My Network Places updates they can all share files and printers. The problem is I'm having trouble getting My Network Places to do it's bit.

I've recently downloaded "Look@Lan" from that very nice SnapFiles site and it shows alls well, and once I've ran it (and only after I've ran it) My Network Places then updates and I can carry on shareing etc.

Any ideas anyone?

All help gratefully recieved.

Cheers then.

UPDATE..14/08/2006

Seeing as I've had no posts as to what the problem might be I decided to do a bit of internet research, now I don't know if this is the correct answer or even if it will solve the problem altogether, but it seems to be doing the trick for the moment. I'll update again in a few days and let anyone who's interested know how I'm getting on. Anyway to the answer:

I set up a "LMHOSTS" file containing the ipaddress and name of each pc on the network.

Time will tell!!

UPDATE #2..15/08/2006

Well the above worked (sort of) from laptop to PC alls fine, from P to laptop same problem. Don't know why, it just is. Anyway, found an item on static ip's by "YeOldStoneCat" (lovely chap) followed that now alls tickidy boo.

Out of curiosity, is your wireless laptop running XP Pro while the desktops are running Home Edition? If this is the case, your laptop is causing your problem everytime it connects.
