I recently subscribed to the Pro Package from SBC Yahoo DSL(1.5MB - 3MB).
They told me over the phone that it would be active on Jan 14,2005, but I haven't noticed any speed, and when I tried calling, they said my modem would get out of sync if it went over 1.5MBs. But prior to the upgrade to the propackage, they it was available and it would work, so I agreed to sign up for it, but how is it all of a sudden it goes out of sync when they ran tests before the initial upgrade. They told me they were going to send an ASI tech, but they didn't give me any numbers to contact or a troubleshooting ticket. Since I signed a contract with SBC, I do not want to cancel the DSL, but I also do not want to be recieving 327kbps when I should be recieveing 4x-10x more. Any soultions where I can try to fix this myself?

DSL phone line problems
Depends on where you got the modem.
If you got it from SBC, they are obligated, by contract, to get you the speed they promised. If they don't, they are in violation of the contract, and you can easily get out of it.
If, on the other hand, you provide your own modem, you will have to upgrade.
For the record, if you have a SpeedStream DSL modem, it is capable of 24Mbps downstream, not 1.5 (that's upstream). In fact, there are no high-speed modems that go that slow. So, if your cable company is telling you different, someone isn't being truthful.

If my experience with DSL is any indication, those guys often don't know what they're talking about. I haven't used Yahoo SBC, but I doubt they're dramatically different. Try calling support a few times until you get someone who either knows the answer or is determined to help you find it. I sort of doubt it's a modem problem. If you're only getting 300K now it may be a limitation of the phone network. Your line may not be good enough; you may not be close enough; the phone company may need to upgrade the infrastructure or put in a switch somewhere; etc. But usually if you keep pestering the people who YOU WANT TO PAY, I think they'll either find a solution or tell you why they can't. Following through can be a headache, though, because there are a few different parties responsible for making it work well, and they are rarely communicating or on remotely the same page.
For your sake, though, hopefully it's a modem problem. That would make it easier. Nag them until they give you what you signed up for...
