Full Duplex slower than Half Duplex?

Anyone ever seen this scenario before? I've checked my cables. I've changed various NIC settings, etc.

But no matter what, I get the most reliable connection (no packet loss) and fastest connection when my NICs are set to half duplex.

I'm thinking this is because of my switch. It is a generic ...

Earthlink Caps

Well I haven't been here in a while cuz I've got everything worked out, but I just realized that EL raised caps to 3000/384 in my area (standard now? it says this on the general EL cable page) versus the old 2000/384.

It shows too :p

Tweaking for multiple connection types

I am just wondering about this. On my laptop I have a wireless card (802.11b) and I was wondering what is the best way to tweak for the various connection types that I use.

When I'm on campus, I have connectivity to 3 T1 lines, but when I'm at home I have my 2000/384 Earthlink Cable connection ...

Using Ethernet is better because it is a bit more stable and sometimes faster, especially if you have a lot of USB devices.

If you have USB you just unplug the USB cable going to the USB Nic or Modem, install a NIC if you don't have one, get an ethernet cable, and then setup the NIC to use the DHCP ...

indexing is NOT a new feature to NTFS, it is an operating system feature brought about by MS Office 97 and therefore can be found on Windows 95 if Office 97 is used.

It was later melded into 98SE, 2k, and XP by default whether or not you use Office.

The serial port is slower than the parallel port...RS232 or not, its slower.

An ECP type parallel port can achieve a high enough transfer rate for 128k ISDN.

In any case, using the parallel or serial ports is CPU intensive and bogs down the system as data transfer rate increases.

Access could be disabled through the router, yes.

You could disable DNS services at the machine too, but they could still access some sites via raw IP address. Don't do this if resources on the network need DNS though.

Or you could upgrade to XP Pro for the remote desktop options.

That option works well because unlike VNC it is natively integrated into the shell and can even route your systems sound to the local computer.

Of course this is probably the most expensive of all options.
