Ugh, foolish!

After researching, and realizing I'm a fool ... I've realized that my cable company doesn't record MAC addy's ... they just configure the cable modem to allow the first connected MAC only.

Simply power-off the cable modem, flipflop the CAT5 cables (with the PC off), power back on the cable modem ...

Cloning MAC on a PC, not a router?

My cable service only allows 1 MAC to connect. With my router, I can clone MAC addresses.

Well, tomorrow I'll be taking my router elsewhere to help serve a LAN party. The computer I'll be leaving at home is NOT the registered MAC - my laptop that I'm taking with me is.

The computer that I'm ...

If for some reason my router were to lose the existing MAC address that I'm cloning (the router doesn't have user-inputtable MAC addresses to clone, it only lets you select from previously connected machine's MACs) and I've upgraded my NIC, I'd have to change the MAC on the upgraded NIC for my ...

MAC Address Change?

I apologize in advance if this should have been posted in the General Cable/DSL Forum.

My ISP is not allowing my router to connect for some reason. They have never been told that I have a router, yet I can't pull an IP. After researching, I can "clone" the MAC of my PC, and then it will pull an IP ...

Ugh, me too!

It gets quite frustrating. The only way to fix mine is by power cycling the router (I can't even go to 192.168.1.1 to reconfigure the router). I think I'm using firmware 1.38 (I'd have to look when I get home). It's only recently started to happen too.

Suggestions, input, or feedback anybody?

I have a similar issue. My BEFSR11 Linky will just suddenly stop. The only way to fix it is to power cycle the router. The cable modem is working fine though. I believe my firmware is 1.38 (I'll have to check again after I get home). I hope it's just a firmware issue - if not I'll have to just get a ...

Look and Feel of Windows XP [Pro]

Does anybody know how to change the look and feel of the ugly, clashing green/blue colors of the start menu? Can you change it to an image like you can with KDE for example?

Also, how can you implement themes? Is the "Olive" and the standard "Windows XP" themes they have listed the only themes you ...

I was wondering if anybody here was familiar with a router that supported the following:

RJ-45 & RJ-11: Support for both broadband, and dial-up ISP routing. Possible auto-sense too -- meaning that if it's unable to sense a broadband connection, it will auto-dial into the backup dial-up ISP once ...

I use IPX because there are some rather old games that I still play that use it as a protocol ... I'm slowly learning this gimpy networking setup WinXP has, and everybody's responses have helped a TON! Thanks to all of you, you've given me a push in the right direction.

What I do/did was quite simple.

Set up the computer WITHOUT the router. Bring up the command prompt and type PING MAIL.

It'll give you the mail server's IP address. Just use that instead of MAIL.

Hope this helps.

Do what, turn your computer on remotly?

If it's not possible, why is there a connection for it on many motherboards, and the option provided on many high-end NICs?

Maybe I'm just confused on what it is/does. Could somebody clairify?

How do you block banner ads using wildcards?

I'm interested in blocking banner ads, using Windows, using wildcards.

Let's take doubleclick.net for example. Their ads server is ads.doubleclick.net. I'd like to just simply block ads.* or even *.doubleclick.net.

Is there a way to do this?
