does a surge protector slow down dsl much???
and is going straight from jack to dsl mdem safe????? thanks in advance....

If it's a quality surge strip...no it won't slow you down much. Just remember, you want EVERYthing that is ultimately connected to your computer to be protected. I can't begin to count how many modems and motherboards I've seen our service department replace because people only had their computer/monitor/modem plugged into the surge strip, but they ran the phone line straight to the modem. Lightening storm rolls through, sends a surge right up that phone line, right into the modem, if it's an external modem, right up that serial cable to the motherboard, or the internal modem right on the motherboard. Or if you have a router, right into the router, out it's switch, into the computers NIC, etc. Say you plug your printer into the wall, it can come up that, across the parallel cable, into your computer.
