Red Alert 2

Post by Alien »

A buddy of mine came over the other day to play RA2 with me. There is no option to connect via IP (like there is on AOE2, etc) directly, so we had to go through Westwood's cruddy room-server thingy.

When we were ready to start, the map wouldn't show on his side (I was hosting), and we couldn't launch the game.

After reviewing some FAQ's at Westwood's poorly designed site, they said that I'd have to forward about 7 port #'s to each of the IPs playing the game on my router.

Being that I have the Linksys BEFSR11 connected to 8-port switch, I simply don't have that many fields to set up for port forwarding (not including what I have configured for it already). I can only put 1 computer on the DMZ too, which can be a pain.

Are there any other solutions I could explore for us to be able to play 1:1 under the same roof? This is honestly retarded, and a poor design. So much for the RA2 LAN party I was going to have. I have 6 computers now and I do NOT want to uninstall/reinstall NetBEUI/IPS-SPX on all of them. Much less get all of my friend's computers configured for it as well. Please, are there any other solutions? Or is Westwood really that cruddy of a company?
