New BEFSR41 Router - Can't Get to Setup

Post by buzzmag »

Trying to finish install of BEFSR41 but just can't get to setup. Cabling is correct - network properties are correct -LEDs indicate everything OK - but http://192.168.1.1 or just 192.168.1.1 just won't open the setup. Spoke to Linksys - not much help - talked me through everything they could think of - left me suggesting I reinstall IE because it might be the problem. Reinstalled IE and still can't run setup.

Running Windows ME, IE 5.5, Westell external modem, Linksys card - all works fine with my RASPPPOE protocol.

Can ping the router without problem via Dos prompt. No firewall.

Suggestions? Help? Clues? Fixes?

Make sure proxies are turned off in Internet Explorer. I had the same trouble, then I read either in the manual, or on here to turn off your proxies.

Just in case you don't know how, while IE is open, go to tools, internet options, then click the connections tab. Press the LAN settings button and then make sure all of the boxes are unchecked. Most broadband installers will turn these on so web pages will load faster.

If that doesn't work, in the worst cases I have had to delete all of the protocol, adapters, etc in your network properties and then rebuild them. Just keep track of what you had there to begin with. A backup might not be a bad idea.

You also might consider installing netscape and see if you can get in that way. This will at least verify that your Linky works!

I had the same problem you have, i couldnt get into the setup screen. I tried everything to fix it, but could never find the problem. I reformatted my system and then it finally worked, could get into the setup screen no problem, Its kinda a drastic solution, but it works
