@Homes provisioning system is way better than comcast

Many MSOs in MANY markets had caps on them from day 1 how could this happen if @Homes provisioning was so screwed up?

once comcast took over their provisioning was when the 3 days on the escalations crap started........it took minutes to do it ...

when i did tier2 support for @Home when i first started we at tier 2 could provision a cable modem for ANY MSO

then comcast took over their own provisioning and the 3 day wait on the escalation board became a reality (the 18-36 hours)

1. both of your network settings are the same as far as ip address goes?? and computer name???

if so thats y you r not on

2. it has been a while since i had to tell it to someone but i believe the command to turn off the proxy is

go to start then run...in run type in "regsrv32 -u ahiehelp.dll ...

more than likely you have RF noise that is interfearing with the upstream channel

you need to have tier2 put a tool called matrix on it or whatever they have like matrix if they dont have it

they can look at the signal to noise ratio and other modem info to see what the issue is

got to start settings control panel and double click on add remove programs

highlight I.E 5.5 and internet tools (or 6 if you have that)

2. can you browse by ip address? like the ip for cnet is 216.200.247.131 if you can browse with it you have a dns or winsock issue

3. r you set static or dynamic have you tried to ping your dns servers to see if they r up............and checked to see it the correct ...

well hate to give you bad news but if you r on cox in Va and all you have is slow speeds then you might need to consider yourself lucky

im not saying this is acceptable at all but cox will do nothing for you for about the next 2-3 months at least till they get all of their transition issues solved ...

a dns foward will poll your isp from time to time to determain what your ip address is that is assigned to your computer name (dhcp client id) and then will direct your domain like http://www.bob.com to your ip address

it will poll with a reverse dns lookup that gives them the ip assigned to your ...

just as Kip said you have all the classic signs of what we called a "stolen ip" when i did support for @Home

you and another user that has now been assigned that ip address are fighting over it

you need to go dynamic and pull a new one and then go static with it for what ever reason you want to ...

if the first hops you r speaking of that have packet loss is your gateway then you need to bite the bullet and call support

when i did support for @Home if their was any packet loss at all to the gateway that did not go away after a repush of the modem them we rolled a truck for cable RF issues ...

SHAW is almost entirely off of @Home already............Rogers is getting there but i saw a report many of their subs with LanCity modems were having trouble connecting suddenly today

2. Charter Shaw Adelphia and Rogers are the only ones right now close to being prepared to make the switch

3. Even if you are on ATT @Home you could still easily feel the hit

call support have your modem repushed and then wait 1-1.5 hours

then unplug modem for 30 seconds in for 30 then out for 30 then back in wait till it syncs and try again

have them document the packet loss you experience and then if they repush and the loss continues call back in

have them see if ...
