thanks again Lobo,
Actually I'm just trying to determine any obvious reasons why an IE upgrade would cause slow page loading.
I did already suggest IE repair to him, thanks.
He's not trying to tweak the connection, just get it back to where it was before the upgrade. Any clue why the upgrade ...

Hi Lobo,
Okay, the problem is on a friend's computer which I don't have access to. It's not tweaked at all except for I THINK the webpatch was installed a while back.
There has been a noticeable slowdown in page loading since he upgraded IE. So I'm trying to determine what "slowing factors" would ...

Require bit of info about web patch
Hi folks,
Re the web patch which allows the browser to open more concurrent connections.... does this alter the IE program itself, or does it make changes to the registry, or both?
I'm trying to determine whether upgrading the version of IE would require reinstalling of the webpatch.
Thanks

Let's see... I think browser and OS versions being reported is a javascript thing. I'm just looking at the Proxomitron filters here to see if you might solve that by enabling more filters. Maybe "kill nosey javascripts" and some others - I know you can hide OS, I just have to remember how... I'll ...

Re: how to configure tiny personal firewall?
Hiya, here's some links on how to set up Tiny. The last one's the FAQ. Some of the links refer to fairly early versions of Tiny which had less features but the basic concepts are still useful.

Here's a bit of skinny and a suggestion
You can get it just by reading or previewing email to which the infected file is attached. You DON'T have to open the attachment to be infected. A very good idea is to go to Tools/Options/Security in Outlook and make sure it uses the Restricted Zone. Then lock up the Restricted zone like a brick shi ...

Good trojan scanner...
I'm trying out TDS-3 and so far it's great. I've been downloading trojans on purpose to see if I can put something past it and so far it nails everything.

I was just reading on another board about the newest Blackice which supposedly does monitor/control some outbound traffic. However, the blurb on their website seems kind of vague so I'm going to do a bit more reading and see what I can find out.... unless any of you Blackice people could bring me up ...

xbit, I think it WAS dslreports. I can't seem to recreate the original slew of bad results; did several tests last night and all show 2% loss now, even using higher RWIN that seemed to cause problem before. I did tracert and pinged my gateway and the hops (is that what you meant?) and could not find ...

How much packet loss is too much?
I've been testing packet loss at dslreports.com and am having some trouble interpreting the results.
If I have ANY packet loss, even if it's a passing grade like 2%, is it better to lower the RWIN? When I lowered it, my packet loss dropped, does that make sense?

Um...
I don't know what to try. Is there any reason the analyzer would not see the MTU as it is set in the registry?
I'm experimenting with changing RWIN, problem is the analyzer keeps recommending I change my RWIN to be a multiple of MSS, which it already IS if I go by my registry MTU (1492). The ...

Help please trying to set MTU
In HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\NetTrans\ I have set max MTU to 1492 in folders 0000 and 0005, which are the only 2 using TCP/IP. But the Analyzer says it's set to 1454 and not optimized. What am I doing wrong?

Later that day...
Okay, well, I downloaded 3 big files, all showed 119Kbps. So I'm happy with that. I don't think I ever had one go above 90 before tweaking. Haven't tested uploads yet but I'm not so concerned about that.
Um... I'm right that 119Kbps is better than 960 kbps, aren't I? The test sites use k and the IE ...

Accuracy of PCPitstop tests
My ISP says my maximum speed for my DSL should be 960/120. The bandwidth tests at PCPitstop repeatedly show higher results. The lowest is 1374/131.
At that site, they say the results can be inaccurate but it sounded as if they should be on the low side rather than the high side. I did all the tests ...
