Sorry, it was waaay past my bed time when I replied :o

You definitely need a crossover cable. It looks just like the other cable, but the wires in the connectors are switched.
Just go to your local Best buy or whatever and tell them you need
a CAT5 crossover cable.

Assuming you're using a crossover cable between the pc's... A regular cat5 cable will not do.

You also need to enable file/print sharing in the network properties of each pc. Not knowing what operating system you're using, you should be able to access the network settings in the control panel.

Since you've tried all cable combinations without success, could be the hub is bad.

Though, I'd wait to hear another opinion from the experts here.

I believe your problem is, that you need to plug the cable from the router into the "uplink" port on the hub.

Look for a port marked, uplink, If you don't have an uplink port, then you'll need a crossover cable.

I have the same setup with an NG rt314 and a Linksys 4port switch and works fine.

I don't have XP myself, but I seem to remember reading a message somewhere, that said Netbeui IS on the XP disk and you have to install it manually, mainly because microsoft is moving away from it and offers no more support for it.
