Have you tried to do a cold reset?

1. power it down
2. hold down BOTH buttons (go and cancel)
3. power on (still holding down buttons)
4. all lights come on at same time, success
5. power cycle again and it should pull an IP address from your LAN (provided DHCP is being used)

yeah, i was thinking of suggesting purchasing 2008 Server for the DB server, and then using the copy of 2003 Server on the domain controller, but i didn't want the force them to spend extra money.
I'll see what i can do.
Would it be difficult to migrate Active directory from the 2k box to a new 2k3 ...

Gotcha !! maybe that's the part i didn't pay enough attention to.
I'll run a new virtual machine tonight and if it works well, I'll rebuild the physical machine which i'm preparing for the DC.

If i remember correctly, i've tried using it's own IP address, as well as using the outside DNS address.
I can do another test run tonight to be sure this is not where i've been messing up.
So it MUST be the it's own address right ?

It's a small office.. no domain, just a "large workgroup"
The TZ170 hands out IPs to the workstations. But the servers both have static IP addresses - that's the only thing i can think about which makes a difference in this scenario.

YOSTC, I went with your suggestion and all looks well except, now I’m not able to connect to those workstations via remote desktop because they're outside the DHCP scope on the TZ 170. I typically connect to the Antivirus security server and then connect to workstations on the network.

Well, it is a centralized server but I’m actually using an older box (Win2k SVR -which was previously the DB sever as the Virus Server console.
So basically, the workstations are not looking at the same machine for Database access and virus definition updates. I assume that would be a problem, right ?

the PCs are using private IPs and the Linky is running is router mode.
Let me also mention this because it may ring a bell.
On the LAN I'm unable to connect to remote desktop/terminal server using machine name but i can connect using the local IP address (192.168.15.xxx)

I did check out IP address (209.86.xxx.xxx) and it seems to be associated with earthlink (my ISP). I get the same reply IP address for all machines on the LAN.
Also, the IP address for earthlink's DNS servers are 207.69.188.186 & 187
