Canadians got SCREWED!!!!!!!!!!
Makes me sick that those two worked so hard and skated the best that night and get cheated out of the gold.
Sure the Russians my be the best skaters, but not "that" night. I feel for both pairs.

static
I used to install cable modems for Cox. I knew of several Tech's that would go in and config pc static (until Cox threatend to fire the next person to do so) So you can't say that this guy is NOT static, it is possible.

cable signal
I was not clear you had a cable modem issue? Yes all cable lights (except data) should be solid. Now where I live you cannot plug into just any cable outlet, you have to use the line or outlet the tech set it up on when they installed the service because of a high pass filter used in this area but ...

I agree, it sounds like a weak signal, may need an amp on the line or you have too many breaks (splitters) or damaged cable.

2 nics in one pc. Tie one nic to the modem, one nic to the hub. Just keep in mind, the PC with 2 nics must be on for the others to access the cable modem. If you change to a router any PC can access the cable modem through the router itself and you will not have to worry about leaving another PC on ...

I work for Cox @home in Tulsa, Okla. they have started us configuring the mail for the new servers on installs, but they are not working? You have 2 pc's on the network correct? If you plug the modem straight into the pc, that pc's would have to have the correct host name (DNS name) and the TCP/IP properties config. correctly for the nic. or you will not get online. Did you make these changes to the pc when you went straight into the ...

yes 1 nic per pc.
modem plugs into uplink port on router.
Then plug each pc into numbered ports-be careful on some routers you cannot plug into port next to the uplink port if it's being used, for example if the router has uplink,1,2,3,4- if you tie your router into the uplink you cannot use port 1 ...

Latency
Routers will cause latency on your network, because a router will examine the entire packet before it sends it on.

Having to renew adapter often
If you are having to renew your adapter it is most likely a IP issue. Turn off your modem and have customer service try and ping it, if they can still ping the IP leased to your computer then you have a stolen IP.
