This filter post caught my eye. The TV in the room with the computer has a picture with some verticle lines on certain channel which are not present i a TV in the next room. Both TVs are alike and only about 3 months old.

Where would the cable company place such a filter?

You may have another problem. You might not have enough signal at the higher frequencies to provide a decent picture. Cable modems usually cause problems with the lower channels, especially if the have a high transmit power level. You can always try a filter but I bet you have low signal levels on the high frequencies.

If the cable company did use a filter, they would place it on the tv cable inputs.

I agree, it sounds like a weak signal, may need an amp on the line or you have too many breaks (splitters) or damaged cable.

Hello, you can check this site: http://www.cableboxfilters.com
You can find the best filter and these are newly designed and is a super mini size high pass filters. They have excellent specifications, dimensions of only 13mm x 40.5mm and a weight of only 18g. These filters are best suitable for use in many communications applications, such as CATV, Cable Internet and other RF systems. Hope that this info can help your problem.
