who's right?

 I went in for a Speedguide Port scan, and they inform me that my UDP ports 135 through 139 are Open. I go to Gibsons site ( http://www.grc.com ) and I'm "stealthed" all the way! I go to DSL Reports, and I'm all stealthed across the board. So, Who is right? I have the latest Zone Alarm ...

Yes! I finally see the advanced tab! I was looking in the program confines. Well, after getting there I see that everything is unchecked! Through TCP/IP properties advanced, I unchecked client for Micrisoft, and selected to disable netbios over TCP/IP
I guess that did it. BUT! every other site I do ...

In the properties of TCP/IP, there is an advanced tab (the only place I found one)It takes you to advanced TCP/IP settings. There are four tabs-- IP settings, DNS, WINS,and OPTIONS

Confusing

The grc.com site doesn't address WinXP and how to accomplish this (port blocking) It does for Win 98 & Win NT But, when I probed & scanned my ports on this site (also did this at dslreports.com) it showed STEALTH on all my ports! Only at Speedguide.net did my 137,138,& 139 ports appear to be open ...

How do I?

How DOES one block ports 137, 138, and 139?? I tried in ZAP using the port blocking settings, and yet it still shows as open! I am also using a befsr41 Linksys router (which is listed inZAP as a "trusted" internet site.) I didn't set ZAP up using the security tab in Linksys, because many of my ...

Port Blocking?

I've got the latest version of Zone Alarm Pro, Plus a Linksys BEFSR41 router. I have set Zone Alarm to block ports 123, 137, 138, & 139 and yet, when I take the SpeedGuide port scanner test, it shows those ports to be open! I also do NOT have file & print sharing enabled! So, where did I go wrong ...

Un removable objects in recycke bin (win98SE)

:( Some time ago I was ScanDisking all of my drives, when I decided to cancel the scandisk. When I rebooted, ALL of my files on my F drive (logical partition on a slave drive) were renamed to things like Dir000~1 etc, also, my programs on that drive were similarly affected! Names were cut short and ...

What I did!

I ended up unplugging the other computer (from the router) and, unplugging the modem. Then I opened up ipconfig and did a "release, and renew" and THAT got the router ip (192.168.1.1) from there, it was clear sailing! I then hooked up the modem, and the other computer, and they're both on line, and ...

Where did I go wrong?

When I had DSL, and one computer(running Windows 98SE), I had no problem setting up the linksys BEFSR41.I just got an computer running XP, and I'm running a cable modem. I tried setting up the router, and failed. I made all of the connections (cables) and powered up the modem, and the router on boot ...

linksys and cable

I have a BEFSR41 Linksys router, and was connecting to the internet using DSL. I had no problems. But recently, I switched to Earthlink Time Warner Cable modem, and I'm not able to log on using the router. I'm running Windows 98SE. I disabled PPPOE (in the router set up) and selected DHCP. I'm not ...

Linksys with p2p

I installed a Lynksys BEFSR41, and recently downloaded Kazaa lite, a (I believe) p2p program. Is there some "special" configuration that I must use to use Kazaa? I've read in forums that some folks were having difficulties with Kazaa, when they're behind a firewall. Does the router fall into this ...

Is It Possible?

Is it possible to get a device that could switch you between your router (in my case a Lynksys BEFSR41 4 port) and your DSL modem? Something like an A B switch, or box? It seems to me that things could be a bit easier if you could, when going into things like Netmeeting, or the like. With a router ...

After the install
I installed a Linksys 4 port befsr41 router, and so far, I LOVE it! I'm running on Windows 98SE, 256mgs ram, Speedstream 5260 DSL modem, and I did use Enternet 100 PPPOE to connect before I installed the router. When I used the Enternet software, I went in to my network ...

I've just finished reading these threads, and all I can say is, since I just installed a Linksys befsr41 with firmware version 1.40.2, I've not encountered any problems whatsoever! Plus, my speeds increased some. I love this no login, save systems resources, built in firewall stuff! Also, you can ...

Yes, I've seen those speeds & better!(cable) I am with Earthlink, and the great speeds I refer to, have been on Earthlinks cable service. I was at a friends house who had a cable modem, and was very impressed by the up and down speeds So, I was about to switch from DSL to cable, when I asked around for some "feed back" on the difference etc. Well, many that answered said that initially, they were thrilled with their cable, but on down ...

Enternet Drivers

It is possible that this might belong in the software forum, but, here goes!
I am currently running Enternet 100 to connect my Speedstream 5260 DSL modem. My question is, can I dump the 100, and go to using the 300 Enternet, or, would RASPPPOE be the way to go?
I can't complain about my connect ...

but really, I'm not sure why i set it to that, I just did it without knowing what TTL was, or did! What does it do, and if I lowered it to 64, would that in and of itself ...

:( I understand part of this equation, I'm having problems with the logic. The two RWINS that were suggested, were 31944 and 62888. I calculated that by MSS (1452)X 44 divided by 2 =31944
unless it's MSS x 22. what I'm getting at is, why 44 (or any other number?) what is the origin of that number ...

After visiting the links provided by Freda, I saw that in my NIC card TCP the IP address I have (as suggested by Mindspring) is
10.0.0.2 with the subnet 255.255.255.0 that stopped stalls and freezes. Am I still OK with that address?
