linksys and cable

Post by robbeing »

I have a BEFSR41 Linksys router, and was connecting to the internet using DSL. I had no problems. But recently, I switched to Earthlink Time Warner Cable modem, and I'm not able to log on using the router. I'm running Windows 98SE. I disabled PPPOE (in the router set up) and selected DHCP. I'm not sure what went wrong, except I can't log on to the internet when I connect the router. When I connect the cable modem directly to the NIC card, I'm on. So, I seem to have left something out in setting up the router, but I don't know what! Can some one help me with the set-up for using cable with the BEFSR41? Thanks for any info!

You may need to clone the MAC address to the WAN side of the Linksys. A lot of cable companies use the MAC address as authentication.

linksys and cable

i just experienced the problem on tuesday.

what i did was unplug the linksys momentarely. hold the reset button, plug the power back in to reset unit to default.

i log into the linksys, click the dynamic routing tab, make sure that the working mode is set to gateway. now click the setup tabe, go to the status tab, click the dhcp release than the dhcp renew buttons. go to the setup tab than click the apply button.

go back to the status tab and you should notice that your wan information should be populated.

the wan information is important in order to connect to the isp.

good luck
