Some time ago I was ScanDisking all of my drives, when I decided to cancel the scandisk. When I rebooted, ALL of my files on my F drive (logical partition on a slave drive) were renamed to things like Dir000~1 etc, also, my programs on that drive were similarly affected! Names were cut short and replaced with hyphens~ Well I was not going to format the drive (which occured to me after it could no longer scan the drive, giving me "cannot write to disk errors etc. I have since though managed to fix the problem(without a format & reinstallation of all those software titles) But there was a file I couldn't find the original name of, or it;s relevance to anything, so I deleted it. When I tried to empty the recycle bin, I got (and still get) "cannot delete LI_EAY. cannot find specified file. Make sure you specify the path & file name.Well, I'm stuck on stupid! can anyone come up with a soloution? PS the files in the recycle bin are invisible, so restore isn't possible. My OS is win98se
