yes they are spikes and nearly double in latency but still VERY low latency.
it wont hurt your gaming not at that low unless your getting packet loss.

verizon isnt known for having the best dsl or networks out there.

run a long ping and see how many of them time out over a period of 5 minutes ...

i hate to tell you this but it didnt, if you remove the bridge and try it again chances are you're going to get similar results.

bridging to a non active connection undoubtedly changes some registry settings ...

TCP overhead isnt something thats tweakable, its just how the protocol was written.

no there isnt anything that i have ever heard of to reduce tcp overhead. its simply the part so tcp that is used for Ack and such like when your mtu is 1500 there is 28 of that that is reserved for tcp.

i simply cant imagine that all 400k is used for it. but its highly possible.

no i would never use those goofy program cuz they dont work.

I've never had luck with cable nut either, its never done anything but mess up my connection. I try to tell people that with Win2k and WinXP right out of the box XP is set up for the best speeds your gunna get off cable.

reducing TCP overhead

as many of us know and experience every day there is a thing called TCP overhead.
Its basically a portion of your bandwidth thats reserved/used for all those packets that are needed for tCP to do its thing.

but as bandwidth increases so does the overhead.

yeah i know what you mean,

we thought it was looping thru to the router which is only 10/100 but even removing it the max he gets is 286mbps.

its a brand new netgear,,, as in brand new to the market,,, netgear just released it. there isnt even firmware posted for it

hey man i did find this on the Netgear website,, i know yours is dlink but look into it maybe dlink is also working on a new driver or firmware

ive never heard of it crashing XP,, i cant really see a tcp/ip tweak crashing your system seems like maybe your doing more than registry tweaks.

if your running ram drives or other oddball tweaks DONT.

how about you turn off Windows Firewall.

no windows update can cause you to quit talking to your modem.

how about pushing the RESET button on the back of the modem or have you tried already.

and what did tech support say the default router IP address is ??? typically its 192.168.2.1 or 192.168 ...

i have a belkin router that you can disable NAT on.. and still keep it as a router,, and not a gateway.

turning NAT off makes networking a pain in the arse though i dont know why they have tht option there.

ok this isnt for me its for a buddy who just got his gigalan set up.

he has a server which he runs and also a desktop , they are both connected to the netgear GS605 Gigalan Switch, which in turn is connected to a Linksys 5 port router.

Server NIC - Netgear GA311
Desktop NIC - Onboard Realtek 10 ...

i have 3000/256 and everyone whom ive talked to in my local ISP are had better latency with the old 1500/256

ok i been going round with a guy over at dslreports about his bogus rwin setting for 3000/256 cable
his setting is 32767 he reports any other setting causes his speed to be reduced to 1.5-2.5meg not 3meg thats not possible btw.

yup i agree dell gateway and pretty much all OEM pc makers lock their bios's for overclocking. if thats what your going after.

but make a quick call to tech support and they will be happy to let you know what cpu's the motherboard supports.

But the whole point is to run the demos on the cards that support the new features...otherwise, it's rather useless.

theres also the point that even lower cards like my 9700 pro can run things that look that good and yet designers dont make them.

just tried it,.

with agp aperature at 128 it skips during scenes. and with multisampling at 1 looks like jagges hell.
turn multisampling to 2 looks alot better.
suprising how good it looks at 640x480.

i just got to say this simply becuz you guys havent even mentioned it.

its onboard, go into the bios and see if there is a setting for 10 100 or auto.

now go into device manager and double click the NIC. go to proerties and advanced.
