So if I understand, I should do as you say above, prior to making any registry changes. Before doing so I should 'export' it to somewhere I feel it's safe.
Later (after doing the above,), if I find that the 'tweaks' or 'patches' I've used have have made things worse instead of better. At this point ...

What's best way to back up???

I've tried to seach ,but was unable to find in these pages. What is the best way to back up the registry before making any changes???? I've seen "REGEDIT" as well as "SCANREGW" as ways to make backups to the registry.
Which is the 'proper' or best one to use if I'm planning to download a 'patch' or ...

On the 'TCP Receive Window' setting - do I try the numbers you provided; (36500/46720/55480/74460/112420/186880) from the lowest number on up, to find which provides the optimum speed ??

.Here's the info provided by the TCP/IP analyzer ,before making any adustments. I currently have my RWIN setting at 37690 from when I had Bellsouth DSL service. Now with the Cox cable connection, I know that some other adjustments need to be made.I'm just not sure what they are

What does 'Sig" mean ???? When asking for help, you said to: " Please read 'My Tips' in "my sig" and .....

DSL to Cable,to tweak or not to tweak

I just relocated from having Bellsouth DSL in Fla. to San Dirgo and hooking up to Cox. I used to get about 1.5 mbps speeds from my DSL connect in Fla.

Through Cox Cable,I'm getting at least twice the speed.(about 3-4 mbps) with the previous DSL tweaks I did made while using DSL sevice.

I have a DSL through Bellsouth .The bellsouth tech told me I had a bridged,DHCP connection.Does this make any difference in any of the steps?

I had to re-set my registry after my machine started acting up.
Should I go back and try all those patches again or should I set it to 64240,the lowest setting mentioned without the patches?

MTU = 1500
MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460
Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which is equal to MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 37960
RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits
Unscaled Receive Window = 37960
RWIN is a multiple of MSS
Other values for RWIN that might work ...

After adjusting my RWIN settings, I finally got speeds that were as good as I've ever been able to get(1200-1270kbps)for the past 3 months. However, over the past 2 weeks, my speeds have dropped by about 20-25

Help RWIN setting!!!

I set my ADSL RWIN setting lower due to a board on DSL Reports.In looking at this guide, it suggested that my current setting, 30,660 may be way to low.On this site it suggested that the lowest setting I should use should be 64,240 more than twice what I have now and up to 513,920.What to do???
