T-Mobile U.S. said Tuesday (January 23) it has closed its acquisition of Layer3 TV, the Denver-based MVPD that has already launched pay TV services in a handful of U.S. markets. Nearly 200 Layer3 TV employees will be joining T-Mobile, including several executives. Layer3 CEO Jeff Binder will become an Executive Vice President and member of the Senior Leadership Team in addition to leading T-Mobile's TV team. Now that the deal is complete, T-Mobile will soon show Layer3 TV's existing product in some of its stores. Layer3 TV will be available for demo and purchase in select T-Mobile stores in Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. in the coming weeks. T-Mobile's pay TV service will launch in 2018. It'll combine traditional TV channels with online video in a single UI, and demo videos have show that it'll also offer DVR functionality.
