NASA is launching its own streaming service later this year

NASA is launching its very own on-demand streaming platform. Called NASA+, it will incorporate all of the live broadcasts it already does but will also show original documentaries.

To mark the launch of NASA+, new informational television shows will be debuted on the service which will be free and run without ads.

NASA+ will be available on most major platforms via the NASA App on iOS and Android mobile and tablet devices; streaming media players such as, Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV; and on the web across desktop and mobile devices.

"Our vision is to inspire humanity through a unified, world-class NASA web experience," says Jeff Seaton, NASA's chief information officer. To achieve that, both nasa.gov and science.nasa.gov are being updated to share a common search engine and navigation system. This will take the form of a beta site updated on a rolling basis over the coming months.

The agency currently uses NASA TV for its video content and launch streams. It runs a 24/7 slate of content on both the NASA site and YouTube. By launching its own streaming service, NASA is creating a dedicated space for viewers to access its content.
