Comcast unveiled a five-year price lock for its Xfinity Internet service on Tuesday, aiming to stem subscriber losses and bolster its broadband business as competition in the sector intensifies. Comcast's new, no-contract price-locked plans also include an operator-supplied gateway, with the type offered based on the speed tier customers opt for. The XB8 and XB7, for example, are Comcast's top-of-the-line DOCSIS 3.1 Wi-Fi gateways. Comcast's new XB10 is a DOCSIS 4.0 gateway outfitted with Wi-Fi 7. Playing up Comcast's focus on home broadband/mobile convergence, Comcast's new five-year guarantee also includes an unlimited Xfinity Mobile line at no cost for a year, and the option to add additional unlimited mobile lines for $20 per month. That combo, the operator added, also features WiFi PowerBoost, a relatively new feature that enables Xfinity Mobile smartphones to receive 1-Gig speeds when connected to a Comcast Wi-Fi hotspot. Comcast's new five-year price lock also weaves in Xfinity Advanced Security, a service that protects devices from malware and other cyberthreats. The price-locked tiers also bundle in unlimited data, an enhancement that regularly sells for an additional $30 per month. Unlimited data is also included with xFi Complete, a package that fetches an additional $25 per month. Comcast noted that customers who currently subscribe to unlimited data of xFi Complete will have the option to repackage into one of its new price-locked plans. Read more -here-
