yeah our voter turnout is pitiful
We do have a policy of helping foster new democracies but obviously we dont go around the world starting revolutions.
In the case of Afganistan we helped an alliance in responce to an attack on our country.
In Iraq we are going after a known human rights violater who finances attacks on our soil and threatens the USand our allies with weapons of mass distruction.

Actually we do help start revolutions and support terrible regimes. Depends....
We also supported Sadam...supplied him with the ingredients for Anthrax, nerve gas, various disease's...
At the same time, we were also suppling Iran with arms..They were both at war.
I suppose we shouldn't even mention Nicaragua or other South American countries..
Our foreign policy for the last 60 years, leaves alot to be desired.
Even now, we turn a head while companys like the Carlyle group, supply despots with wepons then supply our own side to put them out of business.
Sometimes it's not about democracy..it's about money.
UOD..your last post.......killer.

downhill you are right we did seceretly support these 3rd world countries and justified it as fighting commies when really it was for money. Money is still what makes the world go around I have no illusions as to a perfect and spotless US government. But some of the accusations being made are very baseless here.
About Bush, at least respect him because he is your President, your leader and your representative to the world. Put in place by your system of government.
If you dont like what he is doing write him a letter.

Do you think the rest of the world will just stand-by and watch?
FYI, the SCUDS that Bush allowed Yemen to have underwent a retrofit...they can reach Alaska.

If only to question if you finally get how blindly we were lead into this. This is almost worse then germany during ww2 because at least bad economics played a role in the decimation of people being able to see things for what they are.
And what are "we" blindly being led into?

interesting to see this
http://www.wrmea.com/html/us_aid_to_israel.htm
just a part of it:
"Since 1949 the U.S. has given Israel a total of $83.205 billion. The interest costs borne by U.S. tax payers on behalf of Israel are $49.937 billion, thus making the total amount of aid given to Israel since 1949 $133.132 billion. This may mean that U.S. government has given more federal aid to the average Israeli citizen in a given year than it has given to the average American citizen.I am angry when I see Israeli settlers from Hebron destroy improvements made to Shuhada Street with my tax money. Also, it angers me that my government is giving over $10 billion to a country that is more prosperous than most of the other countries in the world and uses much of its money for strengthening its military and the oppression of the Palestinian people."

Reading little Hal Turner? (J/K)
We certainly need to rethink our monetary support of Israel. The numbers are bothersome and they are not required to purchase American made products with said funds (Read: loss of American jobs).
Be mindful, that Hizbollah, Hamas etc. have as their credo, the total destruction of Israel. They are being funded and armed by wealthly Muslim autocrats. If the Arabs in the disputed territories received food and medicine rather than weapons, the complexion of the situation would change dramatically. The borders should return to the 1948 UN designation.....
This and its quoted post are hijacks. sorry...
I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.

because we have a policy of encouraging, spreading, and supporting democracy everywhere.
It may be Bush's mantra, but nothing could be further from the truth. As Downhill rightly mentions, the U.S. dealings with countries such as Saudi Arabia, Columbia, Chile, Nicaragua, Venezula, Panama, etc. show just the opposite. They are in fact more than willing to supress democracy to attain their goals. Check into the U.S.' dealings today in Columbia to see it in action. U.S. money overtly given to right wing paramilitaires to supress, torture and kill those involved in a popular revolt in the country.
Either way, just a though.
Although it is no news that the Bush adminastration reserves the right to use nukes as retailiation against a chemical attack (rightly so, IMHO, its called deterence). But something to think about: If Saddam was to target only American troops with this attack, would it be right for Bush to retaliate with nukes on Bagdad, a city of 5 million people? Another thing, and potentially more likely. If a terrorist group lauches a bio attack against the U.S., who can you really rightfully retaliate against. Remember, these terrorist organizations, while omnipotent, are a tiny, tiny, tiny fraction of the population of any country/city on earth. Just thinking.
Btw, is this Docsta guy for real?

this is a rough thread..i probably disagree with something that everyone has said.
hmm..
I don't really care for a response..just my 2c.
First of all, Keep the Palestine/Israel thing seperate-it's a conflict that will not end, not until every last human being on each side has killed the other. Peace between these two? Not while Arafat and Sharon are in power..or alive.
Second, IMHO, Bush isn't the best president, but he's doing an OK job. He isn't he brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, but not a total idiot either.
Third, I don't believe they knew about 9/11.
Fourth, I do believe that "terrorism" is a crappy catch phraze for the ignorant...used for political reasons
Fifth, I don't believe in isolationism-however, I don't believe we should spread ourselves thin by fighting everyone else's battle. We're going to hit here at home when we're spread too thin. Every few months, out government pulls out a new country to hate..I don't like that. Many people in this country do not know how to think for themselves..and just eat crap up. Any foreign country is bad if the govt says so..yeesh. I don't think we should be the only country to have nukes...we can't monitor everyone....on the flip side, we can't let nukes get into the hands of barbaric groups either. It's a balance thing.
Sixth...well, I don't know what to say. I've posted my thoughts on the word "terrorism" before. It's just a word used to manipulate morons.. you can read my posts on it if you search..I don't really care to restate.. I think there are other motives though. It's kind of sad, the world we live in today. It's 1:30 am or so now..and I have to wake up for work in a few hours, so I suppose I should try to sleep. I don't care for a response to this so don't bother, I just want my 2c to be read...it's my opinion and nothing more.
Seventh, big brother is already here..I'm not doing anything wrong..so I'm not worried..but I do see arab concentration camps in the future of America. I'll be crying from the inside the fence, still supporting my country there. Oh yea, the UN is worthless about now, they're spineless. Each country is too far in debt..etc..
Finally, 280 some-odd BILLION in military spending.. I'm all for our men and ladies..but holy freaking crap, that's a lot of money..money we do not have...money that could go else where. The money should be spent more wisely...if they're going to take that much..which IMHO, is entirely too much.
just my 2c..i'm going to bed, this is a depressing topic. I disagree w/ most of u lol, still think ur kewl tho
hrmm.. and i suspect most of u disagree w/ my thoughts too..they're kind of out there.. it's 1:40 now..so time for bed.. good night

He is bro. He's one of my best friends too. He and I disagree on a lot of these issues. He's much more conservative than I am (I'm more in the middle of the spectrum)...which is fine. I just don't want world war 3...and I don't think we can expect other countries to just be like "otay, i'm your bit.ch...do with me what you will and here are all my weapons" -- it isn't very realistic. WW3 will come before Bush is done..heh. It almost seems like he's just bent on a war of some sort..he's playing country hop skotch across the mid east. Sorry for the spelling errors..it's late.

saddam?
why did iraq invade kuwait in the early 90's? perhaps because the they were stealing from a well of oil that was shared by iraq? In fact I'd say it's closer to maliciousness than ignorance. It sounds more like the simplistic us vs. them blind rhetoric that you hear from racists and nationalists. Come on, I think you do understand the difference.
The Iraqi sanctions were a result of failure to comply with post Gulf War agreements. That was a choice made by Hussein only. The same guy we're trying to get rid of now. The person responsible for the whole mess in the first place. But rather than place blame where it belongs, you'd rather attack the people who are trying to HELP the people of Iraq. You consider liberators as being the bad guys? What the hell is your motivation? Again, it sounds like an us vs. them thing where emotions, blood, and religion seem to matter more than facts. That's a shame.
and the removal of an atrociously brutal regime from power
we put this regime into power, saddam is our little donkey gone astray. Hell, looks to me like the US wnats to put a donkey in every country it "helps". same thing with osama.
But rather than place blame where it belongs, you'd rather attack the people who are trying to HELP the people of Iraq.
helping what? the US will just put one of their donkeys like i said. and then theyll go attack the place again until they can get more and more resources..
Uod, killer post about democracy by the way.
this is the typically american image ive got in my head..very true buddy. Nukes are the reason we won World War II, nukes saved the lifes of hundreds of thousands of Americans

Like I said before Bush has ballz dude. He isnt afraid to threaten Sadam. He plainly said, "if you attack our troops overseas, we will not be afraid to use our nuclear weaponry if NECESARY".
We're worse than the terrorists? thats gotta be the most ignorant thing ive ever heard...America is worst that the terrorists..uhh ok..whatever. dude...so you're saying when were attacked at pearl harbor, and the dropped two nukes killing about 400,000 people...thats terrorism? Hell no it isnt...its REVENGE..and REVENGE is a bitch.
Now...you're saying this...we're terrorists for threatening to use our nuclear weapons IF Sadam attacks our troops overseas. Umm no, we're giving him fair warning that we have them, and will use them if NEED BE. Why the hell do you think we have nukes? So the scientists have something long and hard to slide back and forth on all day? I dont think so. Nuclear Weapons were made for a reason. Simple as that.
And where do you live? Mars? President Bush was on every news chanel known to man every day after the terrorist attacks.

The Russians got into their Vietnam right after we got out of ours? Isn't that strange?
We supported Bin Laden and the Taliban for years, and viewed them as Freedom fighters against the Russians. Isn't that strange?
As late as 1998 the US was paying the salary of every single Taliban official in Afghanistan? Isn't that strange?
There is more oil and gas in the Caspian Sea area than in Saudi Arabia, but you need a pipeline through Afghanistan to get the oil out. Isn't that strange?
UNOCAL, a giant American Oil conglomerate, wanted to build a 1-000-mile long pipeline from the Caspian Sea through Afghanistan to the Arabian Sea. Isn't that strange?
UNOCAL spent $10 billion on geological surveys for pipeline construction, and very nicely courted the Taliban for their support in allowing the construction to begin. Isn't that strange?
All of the leading Taliban officials were in Texas negotiating with UNOCAL in 1998. Isn't that strange?
1998-1999 - The Taliban changed its mind and threw UNOCAL out of the country and awarded the pipeline project to a company from Argentina. Isn't that strange?
John Maresca, vice president of UNOCAL, testified before Congress and said no pipeline until the Taliban was gone and a more friendly government was established. Isn't that strange?
1999-2000 - The Taliban became the most evil people in the world. Isn't that strange?
Niaz Naik, a former Pakistani Foreign Secretary, was told by senior American officials in mid-July that military action against Afghanistan would go ahead by the middle of October. Isn't that strange?
Sept. 11, 2001 - WTC disaster. Bush goes to war against Afghanistan even though none of the hijackers came from Afghanistan. Isn't that strange?
Bush blamed Bin Laden but has never offered any proof saying it's a "secret." Isn't that strange?
Taliban offered to negotiate to turn over Bin Laden if we showed them some proof. We refused; we bombed. Isn't that strange?
Bush said: "This is not about nation building. It's about getting the terrorists." Isn't that strange?
We have a new government in Afghanistan. Isn't that strange?
The leader of that government formerly worked for UNOCAL. Isn't that strange?
Bush appoints a special envoy to represent the US to deal with that new government, who formerly was the "chief consultant to UNOCAL." Isn't that strange?
The Bush family acquired their wealth through oil? Isn't that strange?
Bush's secretary of interior was the president of an oil company before going to Washington. Isn't that strange?
George Bush Sr. now works with the "Carlysle Group" specializing in huge oil investments around the world. Isn't that strange?
Condoleeza Rice worked for Chevron before going to Washington. Isn't that strange?
Chevron named one of its newest "supertankers" after Condoleezza. Isn't that strange?
**** Cheney worked for the giant oil conglomerate Haliburton before becoming vice president. Isn't that strange?
Haliburton gave Cheney $34 million as a farewell gift when he left the company. Isn't that strange?
Haliburton is in the pipeline construction business. Isn't that strange?
There is $6 trillion worth of oil in the Caspian Sea area. Isn't that strange?
The US government quietly announced on Jan 31, 2002 that we will support the construction of the Trans-Afghanistan pipeline. Isn't that strange?
President Musharraf (Pakistan), and interim leader Karzai, (Afghanistan - UNOCAL) announce agreement to build proposed gas pipeline from Central Asia to Pakistan via Afghanistan. (Irish Times 02/10/02) Isn't that strange?

It's the Oil, Stupid!

If only. Miller's rendering of the president is bleaker than that. In studying Bush's various adventures in oration, he started to see a pattern emerging.
"He has no trouble speaking off the cuff when he's speaking punitively, when he's talking about violence, when he's talking about revenge.
"When he struts and thumps his chest, his syntax and grammar are fine," Miller said.
"It's only when he leaps into the wild blue yonder of compassion, or idealism, or altruism, that he makes these hilarious mistakes."
=====================================
By stumbling blithely along, he has been able to push his image as "just folks" -- a normal guy who screws up just like the rest of us.
This, in fact, is a central cog in his image-making machine, Miller says: Portraying the wealthy scion of one of America's most powerful families as a regular, imperfect Joe.

isn't he a great guy... but the leader of one of the strongest countries in the world cannot screw up... the consequences could be disastrous

actually if that were true we wouldn't be after Iraq right now because the oil would've already been ours since 1991.....remember?
Then what's the reason according to you??

been ours??
what do we really have to do with it in the first place? waht right do we have to ANY of it??
also, that was a matter of chickening out. the support network we were using so fully opposed us at the time doing more then the UN dictated for us. Russia wasnt excited about the idea either. Beyond what we were told, there was a lot of chatter after we broke the border I'm sure.
Well, by the tone of this thread, it's pretty obvious that the terrorists accomplished what they wanted to do...instill fear and infighting among the populace...
They're probably laughing their asses off right now..."Look at the stupid Americans blaming themselves for what we did!"

We should just rename this thread "Bash America"

No, but the American Government IMO needs to realize that the world isn't a playground. Goverment for the people, not people for the government.
Look, this has got NOTHING to do with Anti-Americanism. If I hated the Americans so much, why the hell would I be on this board? Disagreeing with a government does NOT equal hating the people that the government governs.
Ah hell, I was gonna make this post considerably longer, but I might as well just leave it be...

I know, especially since I didn't post much in this thread. However, I do agree with some people that I thought you meant with your post, so I felt I would jump in the discussion...

so: BUSH = US & US=BUSH....
That doesn't mean that everyone in the US agrees with him, but certainly the majority does....
