On my second Jeep Wrangler, always modified a bit for off roading, and some engine tweaks.

BMW also. If foreign, I go German. Love Italian (Alfa in the past), but can't afford the upkeep.

I've pretty much owned domestic cars all my life, even though, no matter the name in the last 15 years, the cars are really made all over the world...

Sidenote...due to circumstances beyond my control...

I had to sell my 56 F150 about 4 months ago...

A sad downhill....
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudices to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own for the children and the children yet unborn and the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone.

I would be interested in hearing about the contenders. Let us know, if you feel like sharing. Perhaps someone here has some insight on one of the selections. :)

Just as GM provides jobs for foreigners.

GM's Hydra-matic transmissions are used in BMW's, Holdens, Rovers and Hummers, for example.

GM operates a transmission facility in France as well, if I recall correctly.

And BMW has a huge plant in Georgia.

Are we done yet? EVERY car is an amalgamation of parts from different countries. Hell Harley Davidson motorcycles are more Canadian than American.

I don't even understand why people are arguing over something so patently dumb. You want an ALL American car you best not buy anything newer than about a 1935 Desoto.

Yeesh.

Try to follow your own train of thought here. You said you like to give jobs to "your own people" which i'm assuming are Americans. But you stated you own a Camaro SS, which I just showed you proof is or shall i saw was built in Canada.

Plus do you want to enlighten us on what car is currently being sold and marketed in the United States that are being manufactured by people making 1.50/hr??????

I currently drive a 2000 2-Door Honda Civic. The only thing i don't like about it is that it doesn't have enough power for me. Wish i could of got a Prelude (I don't soup up my cars).

Honda......reputation.....need i say more? :p :p
I don't think many cars in that price range can get a decent trade in value.

others I like:

Toyota - Cars, Trucks
Dodge - Trucks

If it is a car i will buy foreign Honda/Toyota.
But trucks i like both foreign non-foreign. i like those dodge pickups.

I used to like Ford pickups but not anymore....never had a thing for chevy's.

Oh and i can't forget my oh noing CORVETTE :D

If i was a rich man i would be driving an ACURA NSX ;)

HONDAS RULE

Post by mwkirchner »

I personally drive a 1990 Honda Accord 4 door LX model. It is automatic and just turned over 179,000 miles. I have updated the wheels with ones off of a 1998 Acura CL. They are 16" wheels. I have also replaced the turn signal lenses (down in the bumper) and the marker light lenses with the clear ones. Runs great ... guess the fact that I am a Honda technician might help. :D

I guess at your age it's time to settle down with a nice, quiet, dependable car.

Just messing with you. :D

No doubting Honda's rep for quality and miles of trouble-free operation, especially when operated by a Honda tech. ;) Looks clean!

Now, time for you to get a hot cam, some new heads, headers, custom EPROM.... :D

I'm still working on my big, slow Chevy:

I drive american....and we have had our stints of foreign cars (in the past, but too little to drive them) we had 3 eclipses, a galant, and a 3000gt

but currently, everyone in the family, explorer (great car), malibu, and a saturn (after my brother turned in the first car a week after he got it and it was claimed as a lemon...the SC2 he has now was better than the SC 2 he actually bought)

HOPEFULLY we can up that with a BMW

german cars are great cars....the japanese are innovaters.....however it all started american.

I dont have a problem with american cars...but I agree with most here...styling ques arent in my taste, and in the long run most american cars fall apart faster.

BUT...it also depends on what car Id get. because I LOVE Corvette z06s.....but the M3 is just too beautiful...

1. Admittedly, you win this one. Japanese reliability is well known.

2. This depends on the cost of the vehicle, not where it's made, generally, but Japan is indeed excellent in this regard, from what I've seen.

3. Vague, and I disagree. I'd be happy to let you drive MY car.

4. Another arguable point. There are nice looking cars on either side. If anything, Europe has more good looking cars, if you're discussing new cars. If we're talking older cars, the US wins hands down.

5. Please. LT1/LT4/LS1/LS6 are excellent engines. Also the Northstar and variants. Japenese engines are very efficient and of excellent design, but they don't hold exclusive rights in this department. The power of American V8's is legendary.

6. I don't have enough experience with Japanese interiors to say on this one. If anything, the Europeans have this one covered too.

Just in general I would say:

Styling: Europe
Efficiency & Reliability: Japan
Performance, engine: US
Performance, handling: Europe

Of course there will be exceptions in every category. ;)

Styling is a personal preference and I don't see much of it coming from Europe.

I agree, it's totally subjective.

That said, Japanese cars look much the same, it's as if their designers are incestuous.

That is not all that true. They sell different looking cars in Japan then they do in America. When my cousin visited she pointed to a car in a Japanese magazine and said that was her car. And i told her "whoa....that looks like a little toy car from a cartoon." (This was translated through my mom since i don't speak Japanese) ;)
I am serious it looked like a car from a transfomers cartoon or something. You could google to a japanese car site (in japanese) and it will probably have some of these cars. Why they don't sell these cars in america? beats me. I guess they don't think it will succeed here.

But a lot of their vehicles are small and compact.

By the way they do sell american trucks in Japan. A lot of the Japanese like the Big American trucks.

I think some of the sexiest cars of all time have come from Europe.

Who can top the Italians and English for fast and sexy looking cars? Lambo Miura, old Alfa Duetto Spiders, Lotus Esprits and Europa's, the mid-late 60's Jaq E-types <==no sexier car around than that one. Even the Germans have a few good ones, Porsche 928's, BMW M-6 and 6 series CSi's, 850 coupes.
