How do we get people back to the forum?

Post by RoundEye »

For whatever reason some people have just disappeared. Spammy, SeedOfChaos, Knightmare, Brembo, Randy are just a few names that come into mind.

Why they are MIA? I just don’t give a sh7t why to be honest. We just need to start some campaign to get the old school guys back.

Should we spam their mailboxes with “under new management” emails? This place is on life support and whether if you agree with some of the old guys views or not, we need them back.

Somehow in someway we need people back into the general forum, and I doubt Philip would be unhappy with the extra page views either.

It sure would be nice to see it :rockin: and

Brembo and Randy still post, spammy is busy with family if I remember right and seed is just busy with life.

Its not about how do we get old members back, but how do we get more people into the forums in general. One way is through the news items on the main page, and another is through helping the people with their problems.

IMHO, a sub forum for politics and religion would help just because the gen forum would have less hostile posts and would deter less people from posting. But this has been shot down a lot.

Politics and religious discussions should be put elsewhere or banned. There are plenty of other sites that are out there specifically for these subjects that don't mind the constant fighting. Sorry, I just don't see where those discussions fit in at Speedguide.

I agree.. that drives people away very quickly regardless if they have the choice to click on the threads or not..they still exist and push the other threads down from the top and out of the first page which most people stay on.

I don’t think it’s the politics and religion so much as it’s the lack of respect of others views. To debate about a topic is one thing, to argue about it is another.

You can argue about damn near anything, hell, I’ve seen some pretty heated arguments about which engine oil is best at the local bike night.

Politics, religion and oil, don’t talk about that over a beer.

Politics and religion have deeper roots, thats why they become more of an issue.

Question: How do we get members back?

Answer: Pay them, give them free beer, and allow nude pics...even of sheep.

I post now and than, but find it difficult to keep it PG-13 and non-offensive. It feels very unnatural for me... But hey, I'm trying.

I totally agree. Some of the silly comments I've read have caused a few key members to leave. Keep that garbage in a separate area...I guarantee you I won't join any of those political/religious threads....not seen...won't comment. Sick and tired of atheistic hetero phobic crap.

Spit it out, JC. Really the "most of you know it" is kinda funny as I doubt very many will agree with you but hey........you're more than welcome to have your say.

Tell you what, put up a poll and don't make it so everyone can see it.

Only one question.

Should downhill be removed from being a mod and banned for eternity?

Yes

No

It's that simple.

Every site goes through a down period. SG is going through theirs, but we will rebound. Ultimately even if people disagree they should do so respectfully. Sometimes that can be hard, but trying to do that is always a good thing.

Judging by old PM's and other things you've said on here, I think you are trying to play a few mind games here, JC. ;)

Tell you what then, air it out. What exactly is the problem? Philip deserves to know since it's a part of his income and since you keep referencing "the problem" in public, spell it out. We all want to know since in the end, it helps Philip keep this place running if he gains posting membership.

No such thing should ever happen to DH.

Yeah all places hit slumps Roody. This is why we will create speedchan.org. Just imagine the wonderful people this would attract, and the riot when they claim false advertising.

Instead I will blame you as the newest staff member, who lives the furthest from me. I'd blame David, but he's in NJ and has connections with the dental mafia. I really need my teeth for biting things. <Here's where you insert a "my a$$ comment".>

Perhaps Evan and I could discuss the state of things at the Vincent Town Diner. Where he will naturally pay the tab, and I will bring my macbook and black sweater so I can work on my elitist novel written in a native American language, know by only 30 other people. The evening will end at Cheeks where we can feed dollar bills attached to fishing line into strippers G-strings. Since they're all working their way through college, they'll be none the wiser. :D

Wow... I'm not even mildly drunk and I typed that. I only had two beers.

I'll blame Roody again for this, or maybe DH just to follow the trend.

People leave for their own reasons, whether they're tired of the bickering and lack of maturity, or they're thin-skinned and feel they've been singled out unjustly, or have too much else going on to have the time to post.

If they want to come back they're welcome to. Beyond that, what's to discuss?

Plenty.

For starters, why do you wear those cloths? You are in California. Look at those around you. Get a clue. Buy a sock that matches you other sock. When you shave one eyebrow, know you're inviting some odd looks from the guys in the dumpster.

I've seen you naked. Nothing to discuss there.

About Humboldt Bay. Why in the hell is there so much traffic? Does everyone in the south commute north though Humboldt to a job north, and all the people north commute south through Humboldt to a job in the south? Really!!!!!

The girls.

My cloths are perfectly normal tyvfm :D
Blue jeans, t-shirt (white, navy, grey, or black), brown Rockports. White socks, that I don't give a rat's ass about if they're matching brands or not.

Eyebrows are fine.

My penis would put you in shadow.

The bay...yes...(ever actually been here or did you google it?)

The women... :thumb:
Although I must say there are beautiful women wherever I go :)

Too be honest the shoes are about spent...maybe 3 years old and I'm on my feet all day.

But no, went from barefoot and Teva's and moccasins in high school to hiking boots and running shoes in college to rubber boots in a tofu factory to Rockports in a retail job :)

The older less ugly version of this: http://rckp.imageg.net/graphics/product ... 9p275w.png

Tried on a few Doc Martens years ago but lived in AZ at the time and their gum rubber soles seemed too soft for the kind of wear I'd put on them.

Curious, what gave you that impression? Chatted with you for quite a while now.

My experience/2cents on this issue and the state of this website

I found this site as my dial-up was slow and saw a forum where i could get help with my internet connection/computer. From there it grew. I used to post/check this site all the on the gen discussion etc. After a while and getting busier i spent more time on other sites.
The main thing i feel this site is lacking is a generic theme that people are interested in. 'Speedguide' is dated. Its revolved around making internet faster and fixing ur computer. Well most people are more then content with their broadband speed and speedguide is a drop in a water bucket when it comes to fixing ur computer. And to be quite honest the homepage on speedguide has no original content, no reason to check.

My current web time is spent on
Fatwaller/Slickdeals read on peoples 2cents on finance and hot deals
Passatworld Check on VW's and cars
Cnet - Constant update of computer info
CNN news

hope this helps you guys!
