I'm out of ideas.

My system is running hot. Really, really hot. In fact, here are the exact numbers of hot I am running at.

I need to know how to get this beast cooler. Does anyone know of any good watercooling systems or simple air cooling systems that work better than two side fans? I'm ripping my hair out here trying to run this thing at a reasonable temperature.

I'm not overclocking at all. This is a stock system.

Would underclocking help?

I would check the CPU fan for any dust that may have clogged the fins. I would also remove the CPU fan and check to see the condition of the Thermal grease and maybe get a tube of Artic Silver and reapply the grease. Get a Case fan too as they are pretty cheap...either a 80mm or 120mm whichever fits in your case.

Like pie said, get a case fan or two. Intake and exhaust fans help more than you can imagine, the rest of the temps in your case are fairly high so I bet it's a matter of keeping all that heat enclosed. Also, is the computer closed up in some sort of desk/cabinet thing? That chip is a 478 prescott, right? If so, they are the hottest running Intel chips out because they use such a huge amount of power. Just don't expect to see temps like a Northwood or LGA775 Prescott. Currently you're getting about 67c, which is on the high end of normal for that chip.

you can also set in speedfan where the warnings will showup, i don't know how hot them chips run, but ya check for dust bunnies and make sure all fans are blowing, maybe a bad one in there ?

Okay, I have a 3.2 Prescott so I know your pain.

The Prescotts run VERY hot. That said, there are a few things you can do.

http://www.koolsolutions.net/ has a product proven to reduce temps by ducting air from the bottom of the case (where it's cooler) to the CPU. It would also be a good idea to pick up a aftermarket cooler and some arctic silver paste. Thermalright and Zalman both make good heatsinks and fans.

Additionally, overall case cooling is important. You may want to consider simply running with the side off, or, if that's not feasable, at least drilling holes in the side for increased airflow.

Edit to add.. 151F for a Prescott is hot, but it's not as hot as they go. Trust me on this. I've seen them at near boiling tempos before. As well, you may want to download motherboard monitor http://mbm.livewiredev.com/ and use it as a reference check since it seems like the software you're using may be a bit off.

Im trying speedfan but it won't keep my fan spinning at the highest...even tho I set it to 100%min and 100%max. I wonder if there is something better out there.

That is not really bad at all for a prescott at 100%. If your that worried I'd look into fixing your cables inside for max air flow. How warm is room temperature? If you want a good HS&F thought I would suggest the Zalman 7700-CU 120

For a customer who bought a 3.2 from me I used this one. Its nice and quiet and it kept it cooler

Intel P4 LGA775
Intel P4 478 Prescott FMB1.5
AMD Athlon 64 / Athlon 64 FX
AMD Athlon XP up to 3400+
AMD Sempron up to 3400+
and it requires the removal of the motherboard to be installed. Not good if you have Big/Tall capacitors near the cpu

Gracias. Does that also govern the CPU fan speed ?

i just installed one of those last nite on my main system, i had to bend a few heatpipes to clear the heatsink on my video card and the system memory, but it barely does fit my mobo.

still working on a new duct system for the fesh air intake, that heatsink is very tall and i am using a 120mm x 38mm fan that is mounted to the side panel instead of the stock fan, i hate the orange colour of it :irate:

it is a pain to install with the mobo in the case, so i made 2 rods and used 2 nuts to secure it instead of the supplied screws, much easier as there was no way i was going to beable to reach the screws.

i got mine from http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=FAN-CLP114, alittle cheaper priced.

Not a bad looking tool but it doesnt seem to detect but a handful of boards. Ill have to try those generic settings if I get a chance.

Do you have a free shipping code for that site? 41.75 for the fan and $9.85 for UPS ground. Would be good if they offer free shipping for future use. The Zipzoomfly price of 51 bucks is with 2nd day Fedex which is pretty fast.
I thought to mount that fan you had to take the Mobo completely out to put in the shims and stuff for mounting? I went through all that for nothing! lol

ya i think maybe they had a better deal when i ordered mine,i paid about $51 shipped with a tube of ceramique (sp) thermal paste as well not sure really, on my mobo i was able to use the msi factory heatsink bracket that is on the back off the mobo, not all boards are the same i guess.

I have been running with the side off. My room temperature is ~70 degrees, though I opened my window a bit and let it drop to ~60 with the cold air flowing in. The CPU temp went from 151 to 150. With the side -on-, I was running 160+.

I will answer everyone else in turn. I'm applying that arctic silver stuff.

just to give you an idea on how large the big typhoon is, here is a pic i took showing the threaded rod i used instead of the supplied screws, circled in yellow.

I also have a Prescott and she runs hot as hell. I ended up getting an XP-120 with an extra 120mm fan sucking the hot air straight out through the side (in additition to the 4 case fans I already have). Runs cool as my wifes heart now.

This might not mean anything, but

I have a rig downstairs running speedfan, non(c)

Turn on your PC from a cold boot, then when speedfan comes up, do not set anything, and close, end task, "Tron"(c) quote, end line, and get back to me if your fans spin.

If your fans are still spinning, always were.

Clean them.

If you hear new fan sounds eminating(god I love that wrod) from your tower, think about cleaning them, anyway, problem solved :thumb:
