Well, that kinda changes my mind a bit....

I think we have decided to stay with the DSL though, because it is working flawlessly with my server right now...i just wish i had a better upload speed.

Charter Communications, any good?

Hi. Recently it seems that charter communications has come in our area, and we were thinking about switching from DSL to Cable.

Well, I went to the charter site, and maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I didn't see anything that talked about what type of addresses they have, or etc...

A friend of ...

Do you have a static WAN IP? If so you will need to configure your PC to use the static WAN IP. Also, you may want to try a reboot....

You will want to first connect your modem directly to the closest computer in the house. If your speed improves, your router could be the issue..especially since it has that one bad port. If your speed improves once you directly connect, consider purchasing a new router.

Server Lightning Protection?

Hey all,

I run a server at my home that gets around maybe 10,000 hits a day. Well, the only thing that puts me down is the weather. The weather is pretty unstable around here. Whenever there is a thunderstorm, I always shut down the server, and this loses uptime.

Is there any way that will ...

I'm using a Netopia 3500 series, it's a modem/router all in one...very fast. SBC and other ISP's usually sell them with their 6 meg high speed DSL accounts, faster than the average router. Can find them around eBay pretty cheap.

Linksys BEFSX41 is one of my favorite of the entry level home market ...

Oops, I didn't see you mention the "Network Everywhere" router.

Hate to sound like this twice, but I think those are perhaps the most trouble ridden routers out there. Somehow related to Linksys, but nobody seems to know how. But if it's working for you..... ///knock on wood///

By chance do you have a chance of trying another router? Borrowing one? Or the means to just snag another brand? My opinion on the Belkin routers I've come across...they make good cables and halfway decent KVMs...I'll leave it at that. Just...if you might be able to try another router "just for ...

By chance is the router sitting near anything that causes EMI, such as.....it's located right on top of a subwoofer, or near a flourescent light?

Good power source for the router?

Latest firmware for the router?

It's located somewhere that it gets ample cooling/air circulation?

Its not located ...

There should be no relation between static LAN IP addresses, and your WAN IP, the WAN IP lease is dictated by your ISP.

The router already has been running NAT all along, regardless of static/dynamic, DHCP or no DHCP, etc.

You don't need to disable DHCP on the LAN side of the router either, just ...

Some of the details may depend on the router that you are using.
It's possible, that because you defined your LAN IP's to look to the WAN for default gateway, that you have created a NAT. Have you perform a reverse lookup every couple of days? I'm sure you have. But that is weird, what ISP are you ...

Disabled DHCP on router...and now WAN IP is static?

Hey guys.

This is probably a dumb question, but its one I am just curious about.

About a week ago, I disabled DHCP on our router so that each computer could have a static LAN IP. Well, that worked without fail, but now, my WAN IP is static? I was assigned a dynamic IP from my ISP, and my IP ...

Nevermind guys, all fixed. :)

What I had to do, was modify my HOSTS file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\HOSTS) and add my domain name and local addresses, and it seems to fix the no loopback problem. :)

Problem with Router and web server

Hey all.

I am having a very small problem with my router. Whenever I try to access my website via my public address, it takes me to my router configuration screen.

How can I make it so that it actually goes to my site instead of the router config page?

I'm using a Belkin F5D5231-4 router. This ...

Heh. I wondered about it having Linksys on the name as well...

Well, besides the port 20 problem, I haven't had any other problems with this router. It seems to get the job done, and I have never experienced any speed problems.

Thanks all!

Thanks for the link mcoffee, but I've tried both methods. Neither work. No data can be sent to the server, because port 20 isnt open. :(

If there is anyone else here that owns a Linksys router, could you try to forward port 20 and let me know if it works? Thankies.

Grr, sorry for a triple post, but it is definately not enabled in UpNp. The router only gives me the option for port 21 for some reason. I don't know why it doesnt give me the option to open 20 too. :(

No, I havent tried updating Firmware. I will try that. Also, the router doesnt have it open, because no one can get past the PASV mode section of starting FTP. :( So its definately not being forwarded.

Consolidated Communications DSL

Hi all,

We are going to soon get DSL from Consolidated Communications, and we were wondering if this service was reliable. Has anyone here ever used this service?

Any negative, or positive comments on this service are welcome, thanks. :)

Regards,

Willie.
