Slow Internet, 300-500 Ping

I just reformated my computer and it is so slow and my ping is normally 100 and i have a cable modem. My ping spikes to about 300-500 and wont go back down so i have to restart. I phoned my computer company (Gateway) and they said it could be from like Kazza or Spyware or Network card. I dont have Kazza or Spyware so im guessing its Network card. I just went to Symantec and scanned my comp for viruses and so far its found 29 viruses. Is that why my computer is so slow and my ping is spiking, or is that still my Network card ?

29 Viruses?! Wow that could be part of your problem! Get that fixed up mate!
