Unable to Open Port 20 on Router.

Hey everyone. Im having a very hard time here. I'm trying to get FTP to run on my system, but my router wont let me open port 20.

I'm using a Network Everywhere NR041 router. When I attempt to forward port 20, I get the following error:

Failure: No space to add Virtual Server or have a duplication port:VSFTPD.

What can I do to resolve this issue? Its really bugging me, and my FTP server wont run without port 20 forwarded as well as well as 21.

Btw, I already called my ISP, they don't block ports 20, or 21. So I know it is not a port filter problem.

Sorry i missed the fact you tried that port 21 did you try upgrading the firmware on the router or it could be that router is has opened on default unpnp is enabled already

No, I havent tried updating Firmware. I will try that. Also, the router doesnt have it open, because no one can get past the PASV mode section of starting FTP.

So its definately not being forwarded.

I upgraded Firmware, that did no good.

Any more ideas?

Grr, sorry for a triple post, but it is definately not enabled in UpNp. The router only gives me the option for port 21 for some reason. I don't know why it doesnt give me the option to open 20 too.

Thanks for the link mcoffee, but I've tried both methods. Neither work. No data can be sent to the server, because port 20 isnt open.

If there is anyone else here that owns a Linksys router, could you try to forward port 20 and let me know if it works? Thankies.

I know it isnt the most recommended...but I enabled DMZ Host on the server computer, and FTP is working now. Now all I need to do is get the firewall running on the pc again.

In my opinion, the Network Everywhere products suck. I think they are "Cant pass quality contol tests, but we'll sell them anyway" devices from Linksys. I installed a NIC in a buddies PC and took almost 1 HOUR to get darned thing working!

I will never buy that crap ever again...

I know you don't want to hear this, but that "Network Everywhere" router seems to garner the most compliants from any router label I've ever seen. I don't know what the story is with them, Linksys doesn't make them as far as I know, they just licensed their name to someone else to put on them. Not even a peep about them on Linksys website.

Anyways....I've read more issues regarding those routers than any other brand....advice...try to replace it, either with a real Linksys like the BEFSX41, or something else.

I was thinking that too I heard of speed issues with those network everywhere but not the ports so I was undecided on that

Yes I've been there before, and yes, similar template. The relationship between the companies however...I've never found much info on.

Heh. I wondered about it having Linksys on the name as well...

Well, besides the port 20 problem, I haven't had any other problems with this router. It seems to get the job done, and I have never experienced any speed problems.
