by the way UOD, 400SC is supposely a server. However it has the same chasis as the high end Dell 82 or 83 or 8400 (sorry I forgot). So basically you just get a cheap barebone and put the goodies you want inside :)

Turns out the USB controller chip on the mobo was dead. The cell phone data cable sent a current to the chip and killed it. Called dell and they RMAed me a new mobo overnight and it's working fine now :)

Sorry I didn't explain the problem with more clarity. The rig was running XP Pro SP1 then upgraded to SP2. qball15j you are right. I am not very experienced with wireless network.

Anyways, I installed the utility program that came with the adapter. It can dectect my wireless router under site survey with an avg. 50-80% signal, but the status keeps showing "connecting." What gives?

I phoned dell tech support again.. and found that Dell has a diagnostic CD.

turns out my CPU might be bad (according to the CSR) it says there is no cache.

really appriciate the help!

I tried what Trev suggested, but when I pop in the floppy, it says "NO WD drives found"

I checked my dell packing slip, it does say WD HD XL40.

one other weird thing is, I have a 256mb ram, but in the bios and hardware manager only show 248mb?...

I have noticed on task manager my CPU is always running at 100%, which is very weird. I tried to do a memory test, but it's taking so long, I will try again tonight.

My HD is WD, I went to their web page and couldn't find any program that is called zerofilling?

Other than the video card, everything is dell original.

I did format my HD completely, but when I am re-installing WinXP Pro, it says can't install INI file, parameter error?

thanks for the reply, but I think it's a hardware problem?

I re-installed WinXP last night (since 6EST time) and it's still not completed this morning at 8am. I have formatted the HD, so the machine should be reset to default setting, but it is still extremely slow.

Any suggestions?..
