Re: Issues with Motorola MB8600

Welp. I feel like an idiot. Turns out the modem and routers are both working properly. The CAT-6 cables I bought a long time ago -- that are clearly labeled CAT-6 -- apparently aren't CAT-6 at all. The cable in question was the one going from my modem to the router. I tried several replacement ...

Re: Issues with Motorola MB8600

Well, I spent the afternoon messing about with things.

When I connect to my PC via ethernet directly from the modem to the PC, I get the proper speeds. When I connect to my PC via ethernet from my router, speeds are reduced by a factor of 10. The IP addresses reported by SpeedTest are different ...

Issues with Motorola MB8600

EDIT: I just realized I posted about this particular issue back in 2021. It's still happening.

Hello; my cable modem is a Motorola MB8600, which I purchased new a couple of years ago.

When calling ISP tech support, however, they always tell me they don't "see" the modem online, although I can ...

Guy came out and replaced the coax from the tap to the house. Ran a speed test and got over 100 Mbps, first time in a long time. Here's what it looks like now. Not sure what can be done about all those errors, though. This house is probably 45+ years old, and wouldn't be surprised if it didn't have ...

Looks like our signal levels are pretty poor on some channels with lots of errors. This screenshot was taken right after powercycling the modem. I assume it's a line problem, either coming into the house, or the house's coax itself. I've removed every splitter I can get to, replaced all the ethernet ...

ISP sees modem offline, but connection works

Might anyone have an idea as to why my cable ISP tells me they see my modem as being offline even though my connection works? They've told me this twice now when I've called in for tech support since getting this modem (which is on the ISP's approved modem list) back in January. I recall that even ...

Expecting anything from government is the country's problem. It's grown beyond anyone's ability to control, and there is no chance those in power -- regardless of party affiliation -- will even try. For some to prosper, others must be made poor; that applies whether we're talking about money, ideals ...

I've only used Intel. Fast and I like their SSD cleanup utility. You'll see all kinds of one star votes on SSDs at NewEgg, people claiming the drive died after a month or whatever. I've never had any performance or longevity issues with the Intels I've purchased.

Save for (very) minor discounts offered on refurbs on the Apple Store and by resellers like Mac Mall, the cost of Apple hardware doesn't come down from MSRP (high margins, baby). Off-contract pricing is the only way to get the latest iPhone for "cheap".

PayPal and/or NewEgg having issues?

I've been trying to buy a replacement laptop battery since yesterday evening. Tried to buy directly through Lenovo, but my (usually reliable) PayPal account would never go through.
