U-verse "upgrade"...
U-verse "upgrade"...
AT&T has made the switch over to U-verse mandatory, and since the local cable provider has a ridiculously low cap, I'm stuck with it.
Just talked to AT&T, and while they're cutting the monthly rate by half, I still only get 6 Mbps down, and have to install new equipment. I knew i would never get 24 Mbps since DSL is limited, but what's the point? Infrastructure, I guess.
Seems dumb.

This for home, or at the office?
I've not heard of "forced" upgrades.
Chopping the rate down....win for you.
Would you move your TV over to it? I'm very pleased with U-Verse...TV picture quality is fantastic. Realibility/uptime has also been fantastic for me. Even during Hurricane Irene...was back up the next day...took us a week to get power, but on just the second day we had TV and internet.

I received a letter about a month ago informing me that AT&T was moving all of its home DSL customers over to U-verse. I have dry-loop DSL, and it was disabled when I came home last night because I hadn't yet called in to get the changeover process started. The AT&T rep actually made it seem like she was doing me a favor by reenabling my normal DSL connection until the U-verse install kit arrives (on the 21st, at current estimate). It worked for about two hours before going down the entire night.
I expected at least *some* upgrade in speed, but she told me 6 Mbps is the current max in my area, regardless of whether it's on DSL or U-verse. To me, it's only a win for AT&T. The local cable provider is CableOne, and they offer 50 Mbps with a 50 GB monthly cap, with I think $1.00 per gigabyte overage fee. I had a 150 GB cap on DSL, and U-verse offers a 250 GB cap.

That's just BS... a cap like that I'd hit in less than 2 weeks EASY!! I get pissed off still thinking of my 250G cap but since Comcast still won't fix my meter that is built into my log in the hell with it lOL if I go over it's there fault! But really back to you, that sucks for the amount you are getting but I guess it could be worse. You could live in the boondocks and have to stay with Dial up which is what many around here are forced to use as DSL still won't push out far enough.Burke wrote: The local cable provider is CableOne, and they offer 50 Mbps with a 50 GB monthly cap, with I think $1.00 per gigabyte overage fee. maybe you can haggle with them about it and you're usage to get a different custom account..I've heard of that being done before with some ISP'sBurke wrote:After thinking about it all night and making that post earlier, I said f it, and called CableOne. Yeah, the cap is ridiculous and I'll go over every month, I'll just pencil in an extra $100 or so toward internet on my monthly budget and call it good.
Wow. 21st century speeds, 20th century thinking. These isps are crazy.Burke wrote:The local cable provider is CableOne, and they offer 50 Mbps with a 50 GB monthly cap, with I think $1.00 per gigabyte overage fee. I had a 150 GB cap on DSL, and U-verse offers a 250 GB cap.
