So you have it working perfectly you just need to give the other computer access to the folder you want. So on the old computer right click a folder and choose sharing and security.

There are so many possible factors for why you are losing connection. If the Access Point and the adapeter are not moving why would you not just wire the two together with Ethernet?

PPPoE? It could be your PC looking for DHCP when it shouldn't be. http://www.carricksolutions.com/windowspppoe.php#11 That could fix it, but it could be something else as well.

Only one and that would be the increase in MTU but that really is no reason to switch as you probably would not notice anything.

Why use third party software when you don't have to? Well unless that native item sucks and with XP PPPoE that is not the case. Microsoft actually did something well this ...

Depends on what you are using for an INternet connection.

Are you on a PPPoE based connection? IE: Do you have a user name and password for when you need to go online?

If you are not on PPPoE then your MTU should not be changed at all.

PPPoE has nothing to do with only DSL.

Rogers does not happen to be PPPoE, but could easily be if they wanted it to be. There are 4 Cable PPPoE testbeds in the USA, possibly 8 as we speak.

Many Wireless ISPs in the USA use PPPoE. Hum, they are not DSL.

PPPoE is an authentication method, not ...

Upping your MTU to 1492 from 1480 will give you really less then a 1% speed increae if you get any. I'd not worry about the MTU at all.

Over XP native PPPoE there is only one Pro and that is that you can up your MTU to 1492, the con is it now becomes third party software not running natively in XP.

There is really no reason why you would need to or really want to switch.

No, it just means your not PPPoE. Does not mean you are PPPoA. Could be simple Bridged Ethernet which is even more common then PPPoA but not as common as PPPoE anymore.

If you are on PPPoE there is no way to avoid it. Get a router with built in PPPoE support, or a modem even, or different PPPoE software if you like.
