Yup, disk 2 would be it. I have done several restores with Acronis and each time they work, although I wish they were a little more intuitive!

I used to hate the Vista search also, it seemed non-intuitive and not nearly as configurable. I forced myself to use it, knowing that someday I would have to support clients on it.

I did find this web page with a lot of good Vista search information on it, including how Vista uses wildcards and ...

Using it now on a beefed up CAD machine as a test for the new Terminal Services. Running on a 4 Core Phenom with 4GB RAM with 20 users logged in on Remote Desktop and the things just breezes along. Very impressed with the speed of it.

I experienced the same issue with a new install of Vista, the instructions on this page helped to speed things up (although they are still slower than XP was):

If all you want to do is enter text into a table, create a table in Word and work with it there. The reason Excel makes you jump through hoops is that it is primarily a spreadsheet, developed to work with numbers in terms of equations, not just for formatting.

Those are the only two ways I know, either preceding with the ' or formatting the cell as strictly text. You could always format the whole row, column, or even the whole sheet as text and you will not have to use the '...

If you put something like 2-1 or 1-2 in excel it will treat it as an equation, giving you back the result. If you want to simply put 1-2 in a cell, you will need to precede it with a single quote mark ('). So, your cell would be typed in like this:
'1-2

Hope this helps.

Alternate Media CD

If you have your Product Key (which should be stuck to your PC) you can order a CD set from Microsoft here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/1 ... fault.mspx
They claim it will be for a "nominal fee" but I cannot tell you how much that would be.

Good luck!

AOL and Active Virus Shield

Personally, AOL's involvement with Active Virus Shield and their deceptive EULA (http://www.castlecops.com/article6636.html) makes me lean more towards AVG in the free antivirus arena. Of course, I may be a little cynical when it comes to AOL, but that is just me.

The easiest way, by far, is the use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. It not only backs up all of your Outlook Express mail and settings, but all your My Documents files as well. It will also get all of your IE shortcuts. Read up on it here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293118 .

A couple of questions. Are you being assigned a valid IP address? If not, you need to make sure that you can ping the router. If so, can you ping any outside addresses? Try pinging 4.2.2.2 and see if you get a response. If you do get a reply then you need to ping an address somewhere, I usually use ...

It really depends on the load of your laptop. Look up the spec's on your laptop and it will tell you the power requirements in watts. As long as your laptop does not require more than 180W (the peak load of the inverter) then you should be fine. Ideally you would want some head room from the ...

Curiouser and curiouser

Here is another entry about Vista licensing. If this is correct it looks like MS has decided to make a major (and positive) change.

Here is another take on the Vista license issue. It claims that users will be allowed 10 initializations and after that a re-initialization will be up to Microsoft's discretion. At least there may be some hope...
