My first question would be: Why are you trying to setup a router behind your cable modem, which is essentially a router? If you are trying to network, you should be using a switch or hub behind the c/m.

I've not tested wireless for latency with regards to gaming, but at 11mbps, a wireless lan is much faster than even your internet connection (1.5 mbps for cable (supposedly)). You could have both of the systems browsing the net at the same time and not see a real performance drop on the lan.

If you are pinging, browsing, etc. then it sounds like you are establishing tcp/ip communication. Like cyberskye asked, what kind of "tcp" connection are you trying to make? Are you trying to browse the internet or find a system on a network?

At least you have some antivirus software on your system ...

I don't know about ie 6 but in 5.5 all you have to do is right-click on the menu bar at the top(the one with file,edit,view,etc.) and choose (check)what you want displayed.

Don't forget all you broadbanders, the nic is also a back door into your system for electricity. Just plugging the modem power in doesn't protect you. You have to protect the cable itself.

I believe the answer to this question has to do with timing. By setting a minimum frame size in the original 802.3 spec, the frame would have a chance to make it through the whole network (limited in size by 5-4-3 rule) thereby avoiding collisions. To answer the original question, no , I don't believe you will be able to decypher the scopeid with a sniffer/analyzer. That's what makes it a very good lockdown for netbios (but not a cure-all).

I don't want to sound like an ass, but a main reason to try to obtain a system's scopeid using the method you describe would be to hack into that system. (Its a documented hack)
Scopeid is normally used to help secure systems using netbios.

All I see for win2k is ipsec optimization, which 3com also supports by offloading ipsec to a seperate encryption processor like the intel. I can't find any references requiring win2k for the nic to perform bus mastering which is where the throughput enhancement is taking place.

I didn't know that had to have win2k for the parallel tasking II to take advantage of the pci bus. I believe the only thing you need is a fairly up to date chipset.
