WIN2K Guru's !!!
WIN2K Guru's !!!
Ok Ive been trying and trying and still no luck. I have a small network at home presently only 2 computers running dsl from a DI704. I had 98 SE on both and everything was perfect. I upgraded my machine to win2k because thats what I use at work and I like it. I have added the 98 computer to My users group with administrator priveleges (because thats not a problem here). I can share files both ways and see in each others computer. I have a lexmark 5700 printer on My win2k machine with the drivers for both win2k and 98 installed on this machine. I shared the printer and then went to the other computer...in network neighborhood I clicked on the shared printer and let it install all the drivers from the win2k machine. I can print fine from the win2k machine but I cannot print from the 98 machine. I cant even print a test page from the 98 machine. I have all the print capabilities that I can find enabled but still no go. Im NOT getting any error messages and the 98 machine thinks its actually printing but its not? It goes thru all the right motions but no paper ever comes out. Anyone got any input on this? Thanx in advance

remove the printer from the win98 machine. reload the drivers and when it ask's if it's a local or network printer then choose network. Cute little window pops up, click away to network neighborhood and you'll see the printer.
OR just type the printer path during the install \\win2kmachinename\printername

I have a similar setup. All I did was go to the property page of the printer and set it to share, just like a file.

There is only one odd thing I can see with your setup. And I don't know if this means anything.
>>I have added the 98 computer to My users group with administrator priveleges
When you share out the printer from the win2k box, all you should be doing is enabling sharing and assigning the share name. The printer is immediately available to "Everyone". No special permissions should need to be assigned. It might be possible that in moving that computer object on win2k messed up it permissions. Stranger things have happened in windoze.
I've seen netbeui solve weird communications problems like this too.
Good Luck.
