Verizon Wireless to launch Unleashed $50 prepaid unlimited plan

Verizon Wireless is going to launch a major new service called "Verizon Unleashed". It will include prepaid unlimited wireless calling, texting and data for $50 per month. The service comes as an answer to the Sprint Nextel's Boost Mobile brand, which also offers unlimited mobile plans.

Only three featured phones will support "Verizon Unleashed" - The LG Accolade, LG Cosmos and the Pantech Caper. Unleashed per-day and per-minute prices will also be available.

"This new plan appears to be targeted most closely to similar plans from the likes of Boost and Virgin Mobile," said Weston Henderek of research firm Current Analysis. "In addition, the plan does not offer data roaming and comes with a Catch 22 where customers must maintain a balance of at least the total of their monthly bill or calls will cost 25 cents per minute and data 99 cents per day."
