Outages plague Hotmail and Outlook users

Microsoft experienced disruptions for several hours to its online suite of mail, calendar and storage services, leaving many users unable to access their accounts. The problem seems to have initially affected cloud storage service SkyDrive, too, but this issue seems now to be solved. It should also be noted that not all Hotmail and Outlook accounts are affected.

In its latest update, Microsoft says the problem's taking longer to fix than it hoped. It's promising another update later today, but Twitter users gettinng impatient - especially as many of them dislike the new software anyway.

Though the cause of the problems remain unclear, Microsoft is in the middle of a major migration of Hotmail users to Outlook.com, which began days ahead of the 25 February outage. The migration will give Hotmail users Outlook.com's cleaner Metro-Style interface for their mail as well as calendars.
