Microsoft suffering from outage - Bing, Copilot, and DuckDuckGo inaccessible for several hours

A massive Microsoft outage affects Bing.com, Copilot for web and mobile, Copilot in Windows, ChatGPT internet search and DuckDuckGo. Microsoft outage started at approximately 3 AM EDT and seems to have primarily affected users in Asia and Europe.

Microsoft hasn't released any announcements about the outage just yet, but DuckDuckGo acknowledged the issue on X. Google Search, Bing's primary competitor, remains online. Google's last major outage happened in 2022, when a software update caused Google Search, Maps, Drive, and YouTube to return HTTP 500 and HTTP 502 errors.

The outages are somewhat odd. According to BleepingComputer, which reported on the outage earlier, when Bing was down earlier this morning, only the homepage was down. If users went directly to the search page, the service worked fine. While ChatGPT was working fine for most queries, only its internet searching capabilities were affected.

Once again, an outage proves the web depends on a handful of tech companies. If an API goes down, many services are affected.

Fortunately, Microsoft's current outage doesn't appear to have affected other services or sites. If a widely-used service, such as AWS or Microsoft's Azure goes down, the fallout would be much more significant as many popular websites and apps require said services to operate.
