Dish eyes 4G LTE wireless network

Satellite TV provider Dish Network has applied to the FCC to begin building a mobile high-speed network, which will allow it to offer broadband service to mobile devices.

The company, which last month received final approval from a bankruptcy-court judge to purchase bankrupt TerreStar Networks for $1.375 billion, has asked the commission to allow it to combine its S-band satellite spectrum licensees it acquired from TerreStar and another bankrupt satellite firm DBSD North America.

Dish Network intends to provide Americans with data access using TD-LTE, over the frequencies which are supposed to be reserved for satellite communications.
