Wireless trade group CTIA said today that it will go from two shows a year to a single conference in the fall starting in 2014. The group has traditionally held two shows each year: a larger main show in the spring and a smaller, more business-focused event in the fall called MobileCon. Pressured by competing trade shows and its own members, CTIA will merge the conferences into a single "super show" in the fall, which it has called "Super Mobility Week."

CTIA will continue to host CTIA 2013 and MobileCon 2013 separately while incorporating super show programs as a springboard to the changes in 2014. At the heart of both shows are the thought-leadership and advocacy that are driving the future of the mobile industry.

Rob Mesirow, CTIA's vice president of operations and show director said that the new super event will focus on six key vertical markets within the wireless industry: networks; global consumer electronics; money; connected home; content, media and advertising; and machine-to-machine. He added that CTIA will be announcing strategic partnerships around each of those vertical markets and that he expects other events to co-locate with the event and help attract thought leadership in each vertical area.

"There's no one event that really has the gravitational pull to bring it all together in one location for the fall. We want to do that," Mesirow added.
