Charter interested in merger with Time Warner Cable

After the unfortunate deal between Comcast and Time Warner Cable, a new merger appears on the horizon. This time, Charter Communications Inc, the fourth-largest U.S. cable operator and Time Warner Cable plan to become one company. Officials of the two operators have met to discuss a possible merger, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The two companies are expected to continue discussing a future deal this week, when Charter Chief Executive Tom Rutledge and Time Warner Cable's Chief Executive Officer Rob Marcus are set to meet at the annual National Cable & Telecommunications Association convention in Chicago.

However, after federal regulators' resistance to the Comcast-TWC merger, it remains a question how they would view an eventual deal to create another cable giant, people familiar with the matter said.
