Apple to update iPhone 12 in France over radiation concerns2023-09-15 19:59 by DanielaTags: Apple, iPhone 12
Apple will update its iPhone 12 in France after fears about radiation that led to France issuing a sales ban on the device. The French regulator will test the software update to ensure that it makes the iPhone 12 comply with their radiation standards, and will then remove the ban on sales of the device. "We will issue a software update for users in France to accommodate the protocol used by French regulators," says Apple in a statement to Reuters. "We look forward to iPhone 12 continuing to be available in France." The iPhone 12 first went on sale in late 2020, but France's ANFR regulator has been carrying out tests on more than 140 phones recently to ensure radiation standards are being adhered to. Apple has dismissed the claims and says "this is related to a specific testing protocol used by French regulators and not a safety concern" with the iPhone 12 itself. "The ANFR is preparing to quickly test this update," says Jean Noel Barrot, France's digital affairs minister, in a statement to Reuters. Apple launched the iPhone 15 on Tuesday and the iPhone 12 is not available to buy from Apple directly. It can, however, be bought from third parties that have inventory or trade old phones. A bigger issue than the sale suspension would have been a potential recall, which France had threatened if Apple had refused to do a software update. Read more -here-
