Apple has given Goldman Sachs a proposal to end their consumer banking partnership within the next 12-15 months. If the bank accepts the proposal, the move could possibly affect the two consumer banking products Apple currently offers: the Apple Card and the Apple Savings account. This news follows reports that Goldman Sachs was looking for a way out of its deal with Apple. The company has dramatically scaled back its ambitions in the consumer finance industry. According to regulatory filings, Goldman Sachs has lost a significant amount of money on the Apple Card partnership thus far. The Apple Card is a Goldman Sachs-backed credit card that is entirely managed via the Wallet app on an iPhone and offers various cashback deals that are surprisingly competitive. But the card is only available in the United States four years after its 2019 debut, with little sign that it is going to expand beyond the country's borders. The fate of Apple Card and Apple Card Savings account is unclear. "It couldn't be learned whether Apple has already lined up a new issuer for the card," today's report says.
