Apple plans to update iPhones in-store without opening the boxes2023-10-16 13:56 by DanielaTags: Apple, iPhone
A new report from Apple insider Mark Gurman details how Apple can update iPhones before they even leave the box. Apple wants customers to receive iPhones with the latest version of iOS to avoid users having to update themselves, especially if important updates have been pushed to address high-profile bugs. One of the problems of buying hardware is that consumers often discover their devices need a software update straight out of the box. This can also apply to devices that have just launched, such as the iPhone 15, which needed an iOS 17.0.1 update that was released before the hardware actually shipped. Apple will apparently provide a new system to retail stores to address this. It features a "proprietary pad-like device" that retail store staff can place a sealed iPhone box on top of. The system then wirelessly turns on the iPhone, updates its software to the latest version, and powers it off, with no need to open the device's packaging. According to Gurman, Apple plans to start rolling this feature out to its stores before the end of 2023. Read more -here-
